J113 & J115A / Nanyang Technological University stations - A 2024 progress report

As the Jurong Region Line (JRL) comes to the end of its run in Peng Kang Hill, so do we in our JRL 2024 progress report. This report marks the completion of our coverage for the line's progress updates over 2024. Before we jump into that, you can recap the rest of the line's progress in the various reports we've produced this month:

In our final update report, we cover the remaining two contracts for the phase 3's northern section in Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Served by three stations, the first two are being constructed under contract J113 and the final station under revised contract J115A. All three stations and two contracts were awarded to the same contractor - Hwa Seng Builder - easing the process of construction and standardisation of noise mitigation & environmental control measures. Some milestones that the contracts in this section have accomplished include the commencement of station building construction and commencement of viaduct segment launching works. More details can be found after the jump!

J113 & J115A - Nanyang Gateway, Nanyang Crescent & Peng Kang Hill update Q1 2024

A view of the 3 NTU stations part of the JRL's phase 3 northern section as at end-Q1 2024.

To complete our Q1 updates of the Jurong Region Line (JRL), we're at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) where the line's northern section of phase 3 is located. Consisting of 2 contracts covering 3 stations, this section was awarded entirely to Hwa Seng Builders, greatly simplifying the works required by using only a single contractor for the entirety of the works. Equipment can be shared and the contractor can better control construction traffic entering & exiting the university.

JRL3 year-end update 2023

The 7 station sites under phase 3 of the JRL as at end-2023.

Its the final day of 2023! To round up our year-end coverage, we're at the 3rd phase of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) which is spread over 2 sections - the northern section in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) & the southern section in Jurong Industrial Estate. The past year has seen significant progress, especially within NTU where teh structures are really starting to take shape visibly. Over on the southern section, structures are not as visible yet but multiple road diversions have taken place across the 2 civil contract sites located along the section. More after the jump, one last time for 2023!

J115A - Peng Kang Hill update Q3 2023

16 September 2023 - A view of the work site and the valley through which the line will travel
before arriving at the terminus within NTU.

Contract J115A was the last of the civil contracts for the Jurong Region Line (JRL) to be awarded. As such, construction within the contract is not at such an advanced stage despite being awarded to the same contractor responsible for the neighbouring contract J113 for Nanyang Gateway & Nanyang Crescent station. This is likely due to cost reduction measures which resulted in the contract having to be re-tendered. The original contract J115 had also included works for the remote stabling facility to be constructed next to the Peng Kang Hill station. Under the revised contract J115A only provision stubs will be catered for to connect to such a facility in future.

Contract awards - J115A & the curious case of Peng Kang Hill

Yesterday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded contract J115A, which includes the construction of Peng Kang Hill station, to Hwa Seng Builder. The successful contractor is also in charge of neighbouring contract J113 for the construction of Nanyang Crescent and Nanyang Gateway stations. As such, this makes all stations within the Nanyang Technological University under the purview of a single contractor - an undoubtedly useful situation as the contractor should be able to ensure that the flow of construction vehicles into and out of the campus can be regulated much more ease than if the contracts were split between 2 different contractors.
