We've been on a journey re-looking back at the progress made through the year at the various Jurong Region Line (JRL) contracts. Thus far, we've gone through the phase 1 contracts, which you can view here:
- Contract J101 for Tengah Depot
- Contract J102 for Choa Chu Kang, Choa Chu Kang West & Tengah stations
- Contract J103 for Hong Kah & Corporation stations
- Contract J105 for Jurong West & Bahar Junction stations
- Contract J106 for Boon Lay station
- Contract J107 for Gek Poh & Tawas stations
Having completed the rotation of phase 1 contracts, we now venture into phase 2 territory. These stations will open a year later than their phase 1 counterparts and will serve a separate service on their own, unofficially called the eastern route, which consists of 7 stations. The first contract along this phase is Contract J108, which was awarded to a joint venture between McConnell Dowell & John Holland.
Milestones attained by this contract thus far have included the completion of casting all precast segmental boxes for viaducts, the commencement of roof frame installation works at two (2) stations and the commencement of linkbridges connecting to station exits at one (1) station. Of the phase 2 contracts, this one is slightly ahead of the others. More details after the jump.

Through the year, progress at the station has been a little bit of a mixed bag. There were times where it was progressing really quickly and times where it seemed to have stagnated. Platform level works have seemed to take forever, with beams beginning to be cast at the beginning of the year. By the year's end, precast elements of the platform deck had been installed and the station had not seemed to progress beyond that. We understand that this may be due to the ongoing viaduct construction works - more on that in a bit.

A noteworthy observation towards the end of the year would be the installation of the station's metal roof frame commencing. Featuring the diamond design common through phase 2, works had begun on the southern side of the station.

Viaduct construction had been steady going up to about September when the launch gantry Magnificent Mammoth completed the viaduct span at the viaduct pier adjacent to the station. Since then, the gantry had not made any progress. Over time, supporting braces within the station building could be seen installed, likely to take on the additional stress of supporting the heavy launch gantry as it crawls through the station upon the completion of segment launching.

This station has seen the quickest progress of all stations under phase 2 of the line. At the beginning of the year, construction was focused on the station's concourse level. By the end of the year, most of the metal roof frame has been installed. Parts of the linkbridge connecting to the exit, located across Bukit Batok Road from the station, were also in place with others due to join before the year's end as well. Progress here had surely overtaken that of neighbouring Tengah Plantation station.
Viaduct construction had also progressed, with launch gantry Rock Steady completing the launch of all viaduct segmental boxes required for the cripple siding section, south of the station. The gantry was subsequently relocated, to be installed east of Bukit Batok West station for the final run to complete the viaduct section there. Parapet wall installation had begun on both sections of the viaduct to the north & south of the station. Along the southern portion, sections of the site had begun to be cleared and a dividing fence within the site installed. The beginnings of a metal structure could be seen as well, potentially being for a maintenance shed to be used for track works.

This station has risen from the ground much like how a Phoenix rises from ashes. The beginning of the year did not look very promising for progress, given that there was barely any station to be seen. Nonetheless, approximately 80% of the station was having platform level works underway by end 2024.

Viaduct construction works were also progressing, albeit at a slower rate than that of the station building. With all the piers for the viaduct in this section completed, work began towards the end of the year on launching the segments near the station building.
With extremely decent progress given that the stations along this stretch open a year after the phase 1 stations, 2025 will definitely bring about more developments. Both Bukit Batok West and Tengah Plantation stations would likely begin work on the linkbridges connecting to the station exits and viaduct construction works should finally wrap up. We look forward to all that 2025 has to bring to contract J108.
