The Jurong Region Line (JRL) 2024 progress report continues with an update on contract J105, responsible for the construction of Jurong West & Bahar Junction stations. This is the fourth update in the series to close off an update on the progress made along the JRL over the 12 months of the year. Here are the first three posts in the series:

Several milestones were achieved through the year under the contract. These include the completion of significant stretches of viaduct spans along Jurong West Avenue 2, completion of the two concourse level spans for the Bahar Junction satellite station building and the commencement of roofing works at both stations. Parapet wall works had also begun between the two stations. As of end 2024, work was going on to complete the remaining sections of viaducts where gaps were still present. We'll take a look at all of China Railway No 11 Bureau's accomplishments for 2024 after the jump.

JS6 - Jurong West
Progress at the Jurong West station is very apparent. At the beginning of the year, the station was focused on construction of the concourse level. By the end of the year, the roof frame had been installed and work was ongoing for the construction of walls for interior rooms. Construction had begun on the station's 3 exits as well.

11 January 2024 - A view of the station from street level in early 2024. The pedestrian footpath
here has since been closed for construction of the station exit on the north side.

5 December 2024 - A view of the station building seen from the street level in end 2024. Viaducts
on the eastern side of the station had yet to be connected to the station building.

11 January 2024 - An aerial view of the station and viaducts on the western end in early 2024.

5 December 2024 - An aerial view of the station and viaducts on the western side in end 2024.

11 January 2024 - A view of viaducts under construction along Jurong West Avenue 2 in early 2024.

5 December 2024 - A view of mostly completed viaducts along Jurong West Avenue 2 in end 2024.

5 December 2024 - A view of the station's side from the south in end 2024. The concourse and
platform levels can be clearly seen.

5 December 2024 - Ceiling panels installed in the roof frame.

5 December 2024 - Double lifts in the station at platform level.

JS7 - Bahar Junction
Singapore's first T-shaped station with 3 platforms has also made some significant progress. The station consists of two buildings - a main station building which consists of two tracks and an island platform and a satellite building consisting of 1 track and 1 side platform. Both buildings will be connected by a two-level linkbridge.

In early 2024, the main station building was working on the concourse level with rebar columns visible. By the end of 2024, the main station building's roof had been installed. Work was continuing on connecting the viaducts to the station building on either side.

11 January 2024 - A view of the main station with Jurong West Avenue 2's eastbound lanes
diverted to the south of the station in early 2024.

5 December 2024 - A view of the main station building with Jurong West Avenue 2's eastbound
lanes reinstated below the station concourse in end 2024. Also visible in the distance is the
satellite building's concourse level.

7 December 2024 - A view of the viaducts approaching the western end of the main station building.

7 December 2024 - Work underway for plant rooms on either side of the paid transfer link to the
satellite station building.

7 December 2024 - Viaduct segment launching underway to connect to the station.

7 December 2024 - Segment launching on the trestle for the Choa Chu Kang-bound viaduct.

Over at the satellite building, the story was slightly different owing to different construction techniques used. Being sited directly over a road junction, the station concourse was built using precast segmental boxes, resulting in two nearly parallel beams. These beams were constructed over the course of a few months through the year and were assembled rather quickly.

The linkbridge between the two station buildings has also made decent progress at level 2. It features an interesting design with diagonal beams adding some complexity to the design. A further level will need to be added to link the platform levels.

21 January 2024 - An aerial view of the station at the junction in early 2024.

7 December 2024 - An aerial view of the station at the junction in end 2024. The progress of the
linkbridge at level 2 can also be seen making progress.

Viaducts at the triangle junction had also made headway with segment launching taking place through the year. Unfortunately, the site was the location of a mishap in December 2024 which resulted in a safety time out for the contractor - China Railway No 11 Bureau - to review work processes.

The few remaining gaps in the viaducts should be completed in the coming year, along with the satellite building being built up to height. We look forward to these accomplishments & more come 2025.
