September was a busy month for the Jurong Region Line (JRL), with another contract completing viaduct span launching works, bringing the total of contracts with completed viaducts to 6. The first train was also received for the line this month, with our friends at Land Transport Guru managing to capture the delivery of one of the first sets locally.

In terms of viaduct span construction, another contract has completed these works as well - contract J113 along phase 3 of the line. This brings the total contracts with viaduct span construction works completed to 6. By the end of the year, it can be expected that roughly another 2 contracts would have viaduct spans completed as well. All the details after the jump.

J151 - A closer look

With the arrival of the first J151 train for the Jurong Region Line (JRL), let's take a look at some of th features of the trains. Several years back, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) ran a poll to decide on interior design choices for the trains. Members of the public were allowed to choose from pre-selected options for design choices pertaining to the block design approach for grab poles at doors, colour combination of seats, draught screen patterns and floor colours. We'll dive into these and a few more facts of the J151 trains after the jump.

In mid-September, the first J151 train for the Jurong Region Line (JRL) arrived on Singapore's shores, 2 years before the line is set to open. The train spotted by various eagle eyed rail fans, set 03, was notably delivered to Tengah Depot. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) launched a video detailing the arrival of the train from South Korea, providing some first looks at the interior of Tengah Depot. Contractor China Railway Bureau No 11 (CR11) has been rushing to ensure that the rolling stock workshops and stabling yard were sufficiently completed to allow for delivery to take place. The test track has also been fast tracked, to allow for dynamic testing of the trains within the depot before they are launched onto the main line in the years to come. All these requires tremendous amounts of coordination among various stakeholders in order for the commissioning of the line to come to fruition. There's still some way to go, but step by step, the line is getting there. Jia you & Ganbatte (화이팅!) to the teams involved!

J151 - Preview by LTA & more

Today the Land Transport Authority (LTA) released a video showing a preview of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) trains undergoing testing in Korea. Two prototype trains have been produced thus far and are being put through their paces via dynamic tests on a test track. The sets are likely to be set 1 and 2, which will later be updated and shipped over to Singapore after production of the batch of 60 remaining trains has commenced. The same happened for the Downtown Line (DTL), where set 3 of the trains was the first to be shipped to Singapore, following prototype tests on sets 1 and 2, which were then updated with refined components used on the final batch of trains.

Another clip also shows the two trains on the test track in Korea. The first train can be seen at the 0:27 mark while the second is seen later at 1:02. We look forward to the completion of testing & for the first train to reach Singapore, roughly expected to be around 2025.

We had previously posted about the first Jurong Region Line (JRL) production prototype train being spotted on the tracks en route to the test track for overall testing and refinement of design. We now have some additional pictures to show and a video that also allows you to hear the train's motor as it accelerates off. This post was originally available as a condensed version on our Facebook page. Today, the first produced set of the eventual 62 sets of the J151 train for the Jurong Region Line (JRL) was spotted being transported in Korea. The train is likely to be the first produced set which will undergo systems testing before official full production commences. A similar process was conducted previously for the Downtown Line's (DTL) set 03. The testing process will help to validate the design of the train under real-life scenarios before the design is replicated for all remaining 61 sets. The prototype production unit is then retrofitted with any adjustments and supplied as one of the eventual trainsets for use on the line.

February has been a milestone month in the progress of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) with the award of 4 major contracts for the line. These include contracts for supply of trains for the line as well as the construction of 2 stations and 2 interchanges.
