Our last snapshot update for May 2026 cover phase 1 of the Jurong Region Line (JRL), since its been a while since we've checked in on progress there. With phase 1 due for opening in early 2028, the stations along this stretch are among the most advanced in construction phases. To date, 4 stations have been installed or are undergoing platform screen gate (PSG) installation. Track-related installation programme (TRIP) works are also in progress, covering noise barriers, signal installation and laying of electrical wiring along the viaducts. Quite some time has passed since our last Snapshot update of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) in November last year. Since then, we've had news that phase 1 of the line will only complete 6 months later than intended and the shell station JS2A will be built by the 2030's. Despite the news of the change in timeline for revenue operations, the contractors have been hard at work in between our updates and it is clear that they are pushing hard to complete the line. Things were getting exciting along the first phase of the line. We'll unpack all the updates after the jump.

Viaduct span construction works have been completed for all contracts except at J109 and J112. With this, approximately 85% of the viaduct spans have been completed. Interestingly, both contracts J109 and J112 have several piers remaining to be constructed, although all viaduct pier columns constructed for J109. J112 on the other hand, still has several viaduct piers to be constructed in their entirety as we'll see in this post.

 What is JS2A? Where is JS2A? What is the current status of the station? These are some questions you may have arising out of the Committee of Supply 2026 announcements from the Ministry of Transport today. During the Parliament session, Acting Minister for Transport, Mr. Jeffrey Siow, announced that a new station will be added to the Jurong Region Line (JRL) - JS2A. The station's history is much more complicated though.

It's been a while since we've done a Snapshot feature for the Jurong Region Line (JRL), with the last being done in September 2025. Since then, we've had the chance to visit the various sites again after a brief hiatus in October (you know, life gets busy). Here are some of the highlights, each of which could be their own headline, from the month of November:

• Completion of viaduct span construction for Phase 1
• Commencement of noise barrier installation along Phase 1 reaches more locations
• Roofing works commences along Phase 3 (South)

The first of these headlines is significant, as it means that rail laying works can commence across the entire Phase 1 of the line. In fact, this has largely commenced as you'll come to see later on. Viaduct span construction is still ongoing along various parts of Phase 2 and 3. In total, 9 contracts have completed viaduct span construction works from a total of 13, bringing completion by contract to approximately 69%.

With so much activity taking place and progress being made, we'll dive deeper into the short updates across the various phases.

September was a busy month for the Jurong Region Line (JRL), with another contract completing viaduct span launching works, bringing the total of contracts with completed viaducts to 6. The first train was also received for the line this month, with our friends at Land Transport Guru managing to capture the delivery of one of the first sets locally.

In terms of viaduct span construction, another contract has completed these works as well - contract J113 along phase 3 of the line. This brings the total contracts with viaduct span construction works completed to 6. By the end of the year, it can be expected that roughly another 2 contracts would have viaduct spans completed as well. All the details after the jump.

With August now done & dusted, we are really in the tail end of Q3 of 2025. That means its a mere 2 years to go till the first section of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) is set to open - we're not quite sure which part of 2027 this would be, but that is the target year. The major milestone achieved through August 2025 has been the completion of viaduct span construction works for another contract. With this, 5 out of 12 contracts have completed such works. More details can be found after the jump.

We're back with another snapshot feature on the Jurong Region Line (JRL) to kick off Q3 of 2025. Viaduct-wise, completion status is still the same along the line with 80% of the phase 1 contracts having completed span construction works. Station works are underway, with more stations commencing interior works. Track works have ramped up as well, with more stations beginning to receive rails as installation works slowly expand across the first phase of the network. All the details after the jump.

Before we know it, May has come and gone. Perhaps the month felt a little shorter due to the vacation that some of us took during the month. That said, the heat has been relentless over the past month. We're sure that the contractors on the Jurong Region Line (JRL) would have been feeling that - figuratively & literally. April has come upon us so quickly that we've had to rush to get this one out. There's been lots of progress made on the line with several milestones hit - including trackworks commencing on a new section of the line. With roof works underway across the entire phase 1 and viaducts coming together progressively over phase 2, we'll go through the accomplishments of each phase in greater detail after the jump.

We're moving onto recapping the Q1 2025 progress of contract J102, awarded to Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co. This contract of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) saw several key milestones being hit this past quarter, including but not limited to completion of viaduct segment launching, the commencement of roof frame installation works at the stations and the installation of escalators within the stations. We'll cover these in greater detail as we look at each station site closer.

In a matter of no time, we've come to the end of Q1 of 2025. Its been a while since we've covered a snapshot update due to health issues. With things now coming back on track health-wise, we resumed going out and getting some updates to cover the quickly progressing Jurong Region Line (JRL) over March. Be warned, this snapshot update is a long, lengthy and juicy one.

J150 - Trackwork update Q1 2025

8 March 2025 - A sleeper-laying machine on the Jurong Pier-bound track near Hong Kah station.

Track laying and related installation works - referred to as Track Related Installation Programme (TRIP) - commenced on the Jurong Region Line (JRL)'s main line following the handover of sections of viaduct near the Tengah Junction by contract J102 in August 2024 to the trackworks contractor under contract J150. This represented the first contract where viaducts were handed over for TRIP purposes. TRIP works will encompass the laying of rails (both running rails and the third rail as well), cabling for communications, signaling infrastructure and platform screen gates among other components. For this post, we'll look specifically at the rail laying component as this is among the first activities to be initiated under TRIP works as locomotives and wagons will use the installed rails for subsequent installation activities.

A happy new year to everyone! We're glad to be back and kicking off the new year with a snapshot update on all the happenings along the Jurong Region Line (JRL) in the first month of the year. What progress has been made since end-2024? Are there any new developments of note? All these and more after the jump!

J102 / Choa Chu Kang, CCK West, Forest Hill & Tengah - A 2024 progress report

Continuing on with our 2024 progress report, we now come to the stations under contract J102. Arguably the largest contract under the Jurong Region Line (JRL), the contract stretches across approximately 4.3km from Choa Chu Kang to Tengah and includes 3 stations. Also included in the contract are the bare bones for a future station within Tengah's northeast sector, which we refer to as Forest Hill, after the Tengah planning district in which it is located.

Progress on the contract has seen several milestones through 2024 which include the handover of the first sections of viaduct to the track works contractor, completion of launch gantry Mulan's viaduct segment launching and the completion of all viaduct piers along the contract. We take a closer look at the various sections in detail after the jump.
