JRL1 - A snapshot in May 2026

Overview of JRL Phase 1 stations JS1 - JS7 and JW1 - JW2 as of May 2026.
Top (L - R): JS1 - Choa Chu Kang, JS2 - Choa Chu Kang West, JS3 - Tengah
Middle (L - R): JS4 - Hong Kah, JS5 – Corporation, JS6 - Jurong West
Bottom (L - R): JS7 - Bahar Junction, JW1 - Gek Poh, JW2 - Tawas

Our last snapshot update for May 2026 cover phase 1 of the Jurong Region Line (JRL), since its been a while since we've checked in on progress there. With phase 1 due for opening in early 2028, the stations along this stretch are among the most advanced in construction phases. To date, 4 stations have been installed or are undergoing platform screen gate (PSG) installation. Track-related installation programme (TRIP) works are also in progress, covering noise barriers, signal installation and laying of electrical wiring along the viaducts. Find out more about the progress in 9 of the 10 stations after the jump.

A summary of the works across JRL's phase 1 stations.

Structural works for phase 1 of the line were in the tail end, with Gek Poh station being the last to see linkbridges installed to connect the exits to the station concourse level. With this development, all stations were focused on interior and exterior fit out works which include the installation of cladding, architectural finishings and mechanical & electrical components. PSGs had also been installed for a continuous stretch of stations from Choa Chu Kang West all the way up to Corporation. More advanced stations, such as at Corporation, have also had other interior components installed such as the digital LCD arrival screens along the platform.

Tengah depot (Contract J101)
In a nutshell: Visible progress could be seen on all buildings within the depot, with the administration building receiving cladding and signage being installed on the locomotive & permanent way workshop. The guard house and parking bays nearby showed progress as well. Works were continuing on the bus depot building as well as the additional bus parking bays located above the rolling stock workshop.

JS1 - Choa Chu Kang (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: Interior works had commenced for the station, with cladding clearly visible on the new shared platform between the JRL and the North-South Line (NSL). Hoarding was recently put up around the southern escalators within the NSL station, being fully sealed up by month's end. Demolition and installation works are anticipated to be completed by Q1 2027. The new escalators at this end of the station between the concourse level and transfer mezzanine could be seen since installed, potentially opening up first to allow passengers to use the existing transfer staircase access to connect to the NSL platforms.

PSGs had yet to be installed at the station's platforms either, with work ongoing for the installation of the utility boom also seen. Externally, to the station's west, a section of facade had been newly installed.

JS2 - Choa Chu Kang West (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: This is one of 4 stations along the first phase of the line where platform screen gates had been installed. Installation works appeared completed for the Choa Chu Kang-bound track while some panels were missing for the Jurong Pier-bound track. The windows and panels at concourse level had mostly been installed. Exterior cladding and panel installation was underway at both station exits.

Substantial work had been completed on the station's interior, with the LCD displays installed along the platform - two on each bound. Works for the exterior cladding were underway, with the station sporting a deep blue colour scheme.

JS6 - Jurong West (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: All three exits at the station had the insulating layers of the roofs installed. Interior works were also progressing rapidly, with the concourse level glass panels installed for much of the station. External cladding had extended as far as the buffer areas at the station's western end. Similar cladding had yet to be installed for the station's eastern end buffer areas, although the metal framing was visible. At platform level, PSGs had yet to be installed. Works were ongoing for the utility booms, with cladding not yet applied to the frame to conceal the electrical conduits within.

At track level, two locomotives with flatbed wagons were parked. The flatbed wagons carried cable drums, from which electrical wiring would be unspooled and hung along the brackets installed along the viaduct's parapet walls. Installation of electrical wiring here was at a noticeably more advanced stage than along other parts of the line. Installation of the noise barriers was also progressing on either side of the station, with the frames installed and panels to follow.

JS7 - Bahar Junction (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: Over at the 'main station building', works for the two station exits were progressing well. The exit next to the SingTel facility building was at a more advanced stage, with roofing since installed. The other exit next to Edelweiss @ Jurong precinct had the linkbridge recently cast, with columns for the roof and escalators being installed. Cladding and installation of louvre panels for the station had not commenced fully yet - earlier installed panels appeared to have been as part of a mock up or familiarisation exercise and were now removed. PSGs had yet to be installed at the station platforms, with work ongoing for the utility boom as well.

Roofing works for the linkbridge connecting to the 'satellite station building' appeared to have been completed, with works ongoing for the interior. These included the installation of glass panels at the upper level and louvre or cladding panels for the lower level as well as false ceiling panels.

At the 'satellite station building', 3 of the 4 exits had since been connected to the station building. The second exit near the Edelweiss @ Jurong precinct was the last remaining exit that had yet to be connected to the station building proper. Frames for the installation of cladding or louvre panels at concourse level were being installed.

JW1 - Gek Poh (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: Construction of both exits for the station were well underway, utilising the full road closure of Jurong West Street 75. Escalators had yet to be installed for the exit next to Block 749 and it did not appear that the Gek Poh Shopping Centre exit had any installed either. Works were underway at the station interior, with fittings such as the railing balustrades visibly installed.

Road reinstatement works were in progress along Jurong West Street 75 as well. The diverted roadway had since ceased usage of the diversion carriageways, with traffic now utilising the final road alignment that passed through the portal piers. Decommissioning of the temporary traffic decking over the canal would commence soon. In the coming month, traffic is expected to resume along Jurong West Street 75 beneath the station.

JW2 - Tawas (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: Progress at the station appears to have slowed slightly since our last update. Since then, both main exits have had the first layer of roofing installed. The secondary exits appear to only have staircase access, with the shafts since completed. No cladding has been observed at the station as yet, despite having the frames installed for some time now.
