Happy New Year 2026! (JRL version)

Happy New Year! We hope that your 2026 will be a bright & incredible year for you. The team was rather busy through 2025, especially during the last few months of the year. We weren't able to compile a Snapshot feature to close the year off for updates on the Jurong Region Line (JRL), but will be working to make one happen for this month's progress. To make up for the lack of a Snapshot update though, here are some images that we've come across that may interest you.

This contract of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) saw several key milestones being hit this past quarter, including but not limited to completion of viaduct segment launching, the commencement of roof frame installation works at the stations and the installation of escalators within the stations. We'll cover these in greater detail as we look at each station site closer.

J102 / Choa Chu Kang, CCK West, Forest Hill & Tengah - A 2024 progress report

The stations of contract J102 in December 2024.

Continuing on with our 2024 progress report, we now come to the stations under contract J102. Arguably the largest contract under the Jurong Region Line (JRL), the contract stretches across approximately 4.3km from Choa Chu Kang to Tengah and includes 3 stations. Also included in the contract are the bare bones for a future station within Tengah's northeast sector, which we refer to as Forest Hill, after the Tengah planning district in which it is located.

Progress on the contract has seen several milestones through 2024 which include the handover of the first sections of viaduct to the track works contractor, completion of launch gantry Mulan's viaduct segment launching and the completion of all viaduct piers along the contract. We take a closer look at the various sections in detail after the jump.

J102 (Part 1) - Choa Chu Kang & Choa Chu Kang West update Q2 2024

24 June 2024 - A view of Choa Chu Kang & Choa Chu Kang West stations under contract J102
as of end-Q2.

A lot has taken place in Q2 for contract J102. With 4 stations being built under the contract, we had to split this update into 2 parts to make it more bite-sized and not an overload of information or more of a huge photo dump than it already is. Progress has been swift and moving full steam ahead as the changes to the sites can be seen with every visit. Nonetheless, it will still take some time before the Jurong Region Line (JRL) sections under this contract can achieve basic structural completion.

With Q1 of 2024 coming to a close soon, we're beginning our quarterly updates on the Jurong Region Line (JRL). Last week, we covered the progress of Tengah depot over the first quarter, including the commencement of trackworks! Today, we'll dive a little deeper into the works taking place under contract J102 by Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co which includes 3 stations, approximately 4km of viaducts and a future shell station.

J102 - Choa Chu Kang West diversions

4 September 2022 - A view westwards of Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3.

Also under contract J102 is neighbouring station Choa Chu Kang West. Located along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3, works have been on-going to shift the carriageways apart to allow work to commence in the road median. Most of the viaduct piers will be located here, with the exception of a few portal piers (piers that straddle either side of the road and use a horizontal beam in between to support the viaduct). The station will also be located in the road median, offering access to either side of the road via linkbridge - akin to stations like Clementi, Dover, Commonwealth and Queenstown on the East-West Line.

JRL1 Construction update - Q3 2021

8 September 2021 - A view of the Choa Chu Kang interchange site as seen from an MRT train.

It has been a few months since our last update and unfortunately, there has not been too much progress on the line's construction. Majority of the works are still focused on the preliminary stages of utility diversion and site preparation. At some sites, there has not been much visible progress while others show a bit more visible work. In this update we'll do our best to give an overall summary of the progress.
