4 September 2022 - A view westwards of Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3. |
Also under contract J102 is neighbouring station Choa Chu Kang West. Located along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3, works have been on-going to shift the carriageways apart to allow work to commence in the road median. Most of the viaduct piers will be located here, with the exception of a few portal piers (piers that straddle either side of the road and use a horizontal beam in between to support the viaduct). The station will also be located in the road median, offering access to either side of the road via linkbridge - akin to stations like Clementi, Dover, Commonwealth and Queenstown on the East-West Line.
4 September 2022 - The same view of Choa Chu Kange Avenue 3, but at street level. |
4 September 2022 - A closer view of the road diversion work that has freed up space for work within the road median. |
4 September 2022 - Load testing close to the Choa Chu Kang West station site. |
Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 is now almost fully diverted, except for a small portion at the junction with Brickland Road. With this diversion, actual construction work can commence. This typically involves the construction of the viaduct pier foundations which will require rotary diggers to bore the foundation piles within a box made out of sheet piles. Ultimately, these will be secured by the pile cap and serve to distribute the weight of the structure evenly.

4 September 2022 - Sheet piles are in place for pier foundation works to commence. |
Works at some locations may take place next to existing infrastructure, such as the existing North-South Line & Bukit Panjang LRT tracks. Where possible, sound barriers are to be deployed - especially for the stretch along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 where works take place below HDB blocks.

As with Choa Chu Kang station, engagement works have been on-going as well through different districts within the neighbourhood. If you haven't already done so, you can check out a brochure on this contract - which also includes the construction of Choa Chu Kang and Tengah stations - here!
