J106 - The road has parted

10 September 2022 - An aerial view showing the existing EWL Boon Lay
station, the JRL station site & the newly diverted northbound road.

Following works that commenced a day prior on 9 September, the northbound carriageway of Jurong West Street 64 was diverted on top of the canal running parallel to the roadway. The road diversion will free up space for the construction of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) station which will be located on top of the street, straddling the existing East-West Line (EWL) station and tracks. In this post, we take a look at the changes implemented on 10 September at the site.

10 September 2022 - A view of where the road diversion begins on the southern side.

10 September 2022 - A close up view of the diverted carriageway. The former roadway is visible.

10 September 2022 - A close up view of the new road junction configuration. Vehicles turning to or
from Jurong West Street 64 now have an additional area to wait within due to the reconfiguration.

The diversion of the northbound carriageway has led to the reconfiguration of the traffic junction between Jurong West Street 64 and Street 63. There is now an additional waiting pocket when turning into or from Jurong West Street 64. This may eventually be removed if & when the southbound carriageway is also diverted.

10 September 2022 - A view of the end of the diversion as the roadway rejoins the existing
carriageway.

10 September 2022 - A view from street level of the end of the road diversion in the north.

10 September 2022 - A view looking south.

10 September 2022 - A view looking north.

10 September 2002 - A view from across the street. The old carriageway is still visible.

Pedestrians may wish to note that the foot path is no longer directly next to the roadway. Instead, a sheltered path is created within the HDB precinct on both the northern and southern stretches of the diversion.

10 September 2022 - Piers under construction are visible at the contract
boundary with contract J105 further up north.

Much further along at the site boundary with contract J105, a pair of piers can be seen under construction. The pier shafts have been cast and in due time the pier heads will be cast as well. In particular, the pier that is likely to be that for an expansion joint appears to have formwork being set up to prepare for the casting of the pier head. It is expected that pier construction will likely move further south to allow more time for station foundation works at the Boon Lay station to take place before the permanent structures can be built up.
