J102 - STEC update for Aug/Sep 2024

Today, contractor for package J102 - Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (STEC) - released a progress update on the package's official Telegram channel. The update features aerial views from a drone of the project's progress and all four stations (3 full build & 1 future infill) can be seen in the video. We'll go through some of the coverage from the video and accompanying update on upcoming works that was initially published, but subsequently retracted, as well.

JS1 - Choa Chu Kang
Station structural works are approximately 85% completed with some elements of the architectural features commencing work. A major milestone over Q3 was the reconfiguration of the existing North-South Line (NSL) concourse area where the Passenger Service Centre & faregate lines were relocated. This relocation served to expand the fare-paid concourse areas of the station to allow for access to the new, revised circulation space linking to the platform level.

South of the station pier crosshead works were in progress.

atriums in the centre will be used for lifts. In the top platform, there is an additional atrium on
the far right which will be where the staircase connects. On the floor below, this will allow
commuters to transfer to the NSL and Bukit Panjang LRT.

Relocation of the fareline was completed towards the middle of the month.

The former upriding escalator was closed off after the new link to the platform was opened. Read

In addition, a presentation deck was initially provided as well. This detailed works that had already taken place while further updating on works that would be undertaken soon. Works currently in progress include the station structural works, viaduct span assembly works and road diversion & closures. Upcoming works to be expected include the assembly of the crossover viaduct deck and viaduct span assembly works over Choa Chu Kang Loop.

JS2 - Choa Chu Kang West
Works at the station have progressed to the platform level, with architectural works commencing for the plant rooms at street level, located in the road median below the station's concourse level. Site possession for the station's 2 exits has taken place, with piling works to be expected.

One remaining viaduct pier has yet to be constructed along the thoroughfare.

Major works currently in progress along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 include the station structural works and viaduct span assembly works. Upcoming works to be expected over the next few months include station exit construction works, viaduct span assembly works across road junctions and viaduct pier construction.

JS2A - Forest Hill (future infill station)
The update video also provided a good view, albeit a short glimpse, of the future infill station site. Those of you who might be curious about the station may have to wait a while longer till the line opens for revenue service in 2027 for better views of the future station. Unfortunately, the PDF file only covered updates on upcoming works for the stations within Choa Chu Kang, thus there is no information pertaining to the future infill station or Tengah station within the update on upcoming works or milestones achieved.

installed. These are generally taller than those at the stations' trackbeds.

JS3 - Tengah
Another station that has been difficult to view or photograph has been the Tengah Central station. This update by the contractor allows a better view as more time is spent lingering on the station, being one of the three to be in service on opening day for the first phase of the line. Work at the station has progressed steadily, away from prying eyes try as hard as they might to catch a glimpse of the ongoing works, reaching the upper platform levels. From the update video, it appears that there were still several more viaduct spans to be completed north of the station. On the south side, viaduct span assembly works had been completed and were moving onto the parapet wall installation and casting of the crossover decks. Portions of the viaduct at Tengah Junction, as we earlier posted, were handed over to the trackworks contractor for installation of the rails.

Several viaduct spans were assembled, after which a slab deck is cast on top to allow for tracks
to be installed for the crossover. In this particular image, there are approximately 5 parallel spans
used to support the crossover and reception track connecting to the depot.

optimal spot for railfans eager to catch a glimpse of the trains running along the line in future.

These sections of viaduct have been handed over to contract J150 for track installation works.

The video update and accompanying PDF presentation provided useful information on the project's progress. Now if only other packages could follow suit. Until then, we'll do our best to get updates for you on the progress of the JRL.
