J102 - Choa Chu Kang year-end update

10 December 2022 - An overview of the Choa Chu Kang station site.

The construction of Choa Chu Kang station involves the building of 2 new island platforms to serve the existing North-South Line (NSL) and the new Jurong Region Line (JRL). Work is underway to form the base of the station, which is likely to be one of the few 2-level stations sitting on the ground for the JRL. Most of the JRL stations will feature 2 levels, however the concourse levels should be elevated off street level necessitating the extra footing work before work can begin on the station levels proper.

Work on the viaduct piers here has been a little slow as there is still only 1 pier north of the station that has been cast on the Jurong Pier-bound track. However one can see the shape of the lift shafts at the station slowly taking shape as the concourse level foundations are constructed.

shaft box is also visible here.

Further south, works are ongoing for pier foundation piles. Once these are completed, the pier cap can be cast after which the actual construction of the pier above ground level can commence. Some car park lots will likely have to make way as the line squeezes between the housing blocks and the existing NSL tracks.

With the progress of works, it is very likely that the piers will begin popping up in the area next year. Soon after viaduct works will be able to commence in some of the most visible parts of the line's construction.
