Further north at contract J107, is the second station under contractor CES_SDC's purview - Tawas. Located next to Cleantech Park, the station will serve the Jurong Innovation District area as well as the southeastern part of Nanyang Technological University. We take a look at how the site has progressed over the past quarter.

Structural works
The station & viaduct are progressing swiftly with works on the structures coming along. Much of the station has been built up to the concourse level, with several pier columns extending up to the platform level. As the station will straddle a future road to be built beneath, the structure of the station is somewhat different in design from other stations built in the road median with 3 rows of piers supporting the station concourse slab. Due to the greenfield nature of the site, work is progressing quicker than at other stations being built in the road medians.
Viaduct construction is also progressing well, with several spans completed. Unfortunately, some of the views are obstructed by the trees within the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), hence the resulting images do not really show the completed viaduct spans very visibly. Compared to earlier in the year though, the progress made has been quick with several spans already completed. Work is still ongoing for other viaduct piers southwards, nearer the Tawas station.
To get to Gek Poh station, the line will need to cross the busy Pan Island Expressway (PIE). For ease of construction, it appears that piers will be built on either side of the expressway and segments for the special span crossing built across using the balanced cantilevered method. Some of the segments for the special span crossing over the PIE were seen at the casting yard.

Casting yard
The casting yard for the contract is co-located with those for neighbouring contracts next to the Tengah depot site. Over the last few months of the quarter, a large double-cell segmented box girder (SBG) could be seen being cast. This SBG will likely be used for the special span crossing over the PIE. It is very much larger in size than a typical SBG and also supports two trackways as opposed to the typical SBG supporting a single trackway.
