Our next update brings us to contract J107 - specifically to Gek Poh. Things here are, like most other contracts for the Jurong Region Line (JRL), moving pretty quickly. Over the course of the last quarter, viaduct segment launching has commenced as has construction of part of the station concourse slab structure. Portal piers to the south are beginning to take shape as well and there's much to report from this neighbourhood. Full report after the jump.

Jurong West Street 75 portal piers
A large part of the construction effort in quarter 2 went towards the construction of a series of portal piers along Jurong West Street 75. Approximately 3 to 4 portal piers are anticipated to be constructed along this stretch of road near Westwood Primary School. As of now, the twin pier columns of 2 of the portal piers have been completed while single pier columns exist for a further 2. Of the 2 with only single columns currently, one will fall under the purview of contract J105 for the construction of Bahar Junction & Jurong West stations.
The portal pier with the most advanced construction rate has had its formwork and rebar built up. Casting works have also taken place and as of the time of visit, the concrete was in the curing phase. The curing phase is where the concrete is allowed to take time to dry out and harden into its final shape. This allows the concrete to gain strength as it hardens and binds together.

Viaduct south of Gek Poh station
The viaduct south of Gek Poh station is probably one of the slowest in terms of progress. Approximately 5 to 6 piers stand between the Gek Poh station and the portal piers along Jurong West Street 75. Owing to road diversions, construction of the viaduct piers appears to be moving southwards. Over the last quarter, the pier columns have begun to emerge, allowing us to see how the line shapes up.

Gek Poh station
Over the last quarter, the concourse slab and its support have begun to take shape. The beginnings of crossheads were constructed in anticipation of pre-cast segments being added onto the "arms" that will eventually support T-beams that can support the weight of a concourse slab above.
As part of the station works, construction of a beam that connects between pier columns began. This gives the station the appearance of a spine slowly being cast at the station site. By the end of the quarter, approximately half of the station concrete piers appear to have been cast with the connecting beams to hold up the concourse level of the station.

Viaduct north of Gek Poh station
The viaduct north of Gek Poh station is where the most action is taking place. The piers here had their crossheads constructed and viaduct segment launching has also commenced. As at the end of the quarter, approximately half a span had been completed while other piers were having their crossheads being constructed.
Further north, within the former grounds of Pioneer Primary School, the viaduct piers continue to take shape. The large special crossing pier has also recently had the rebar for its crown installed. These piers should have their crossheads and pier crowns cast shortly with viaduct construction to follow not long after.
