19 March 2023 - Viaduct piers under construction near contract J105's Jurong West station site. |
It has been a while since we've updated on the progress at Jurong West station under contract J105, the last update being towards the end of 2022. Similarly to Hong Kah station's update, we're doing one that sort of straddles between Q1 and Q2 of 2023. If we get around to getting more photos of the site that show visible differences, we'll be sure to update. Nonetheless, here's a recap of how things have progressed in Q1 and the first month of Q2. For this update, we'll be doing things chronologically. Do view all the photos after the jump.
5 February 2023
During this month, the road diversion around the station was still in effect, with the westbound lanes pushed to the north of the station piers. This was to allow for sufficient work space to allow for the construction of the station piers & associated foundations in the road median.

Viaduct piers to the west of the station were also under construction and some being prepared for the hanger beams installation to begin the viaduct construction process. The pier crossheads were being constructed for the majority of the piers up to the junction with Jalan Bahar & Jalan Boon Lay.

12 February 2023The only update on this date was that the form work was being installed for the first launched SBGs of contract J105. This would allow the epoxy to be applied to bond the SBGs to the pier crosshead, and together with the post-tensioning works, allow the SBGs to be supported by the viaduct structure enabling the removal of the hanger beam.

19 March 2023Formwork to commence the bonding of the SBGs to the pier crosshead had now been installed on both sides of the pier on the Jurong Pier bound trackway. Additionally, the crosshead for the subsequent pier to the west had completed casting and the formwork was being removed. This was being installed for the next pier to the west.
Work to begin casting the station pier crossheads had commenced with the erection of scaffolding to support the formwork. Further west, the lifting frames had been delivered to site and the bonding of the SBGs to the pier crosshead appeared complete. The hanger beams, however, were still in place and awaiting changing out to the next pier to start the process there. The crossheads for the 2 piers next to the one with the SBGs launched had now been completed and formwork was being installed on the third pier.

16 April 2023Scaffolding to support the construction of the first station pier crosshead had progressed and the platform was wrapped in construction netting. This would allow for workers to begin installation of the rebar to form the reinforced concrete crosshead.

16 April 2023 - Formwork and rebar installation will follow. |
Further west, a similar process was repeated for the casting of a viaduct pier crosshead. This was to the east of the first pier with the SBGs installed. As the Jurong West station utilises an island platform arrangement, this pier will serve to support the viaduct trackways as they diverge to allow the trains to pull up on either side of the central plaform. Meanwhile, SBGs for a second pier had been lifted up using the hanger beams. In total, 8 SBGs had since been lifted up across 2 piers. A final pier next to the junction of Jalan Bahar & Jalan Boon Lay was also nearing the crosshead level of construction. Judging by the length of the rebar left, it is likely that this pier will support SBGs of an extended span across the junction.

The progress at this site has been consistent. Given that it has been a while now since we last visited the site, we are curious as to how the site looks now. Do follow along as we provide updates on the various JRL construction sites, including this one, once we have some photos available. If possible, we'll try to do an update towards the end of this quarter.
