12 March 2023 - Progress at the Gek Poh station site |
For this update on contract J107's Gek Poh station, we're remaining fully within the quarter 1 of 2023. We'll present a further update of the progress within quarter 2 at a later date and this will allow you to see significant progress at the site.
5 February 2023
In February, we begin at the southern end and move up northwards. Work was underway to begin the construction of a portal pier around the corner of Jurong West Street 75, right outside Westwood Primary School. At this point, this was the only viaduct pier whose work was visible. The remaining viaduct piers up until the station structure were not visible.

At the station itself, the piers had been standing cast for some time. Work was beginning on the construction of the horizontal sections where the crossheads supporting the concourse level would go. In February, only one pier was having this work carried out at the northern end of the station. The remaining piers towards the south were still under construction and had yet to be cast.

Further north, along Jurong West Street 81, the viaduct piers had been completed to the flared crown level. One was in the midst of beginning crosshead construction with the supporting framework being installed and the formwork put into place. Further afield, on the site of the former Pioneer Primary School, works continued on the construction of further viaduct piers. Just before the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) crossing, a special pier was being constructed to support the special span which will not be supported in the middle.

12 March 2023
For the March update, we begin at the north and travel further south along the site. Along Jurong West Street 81, the formwork for the casting of the viaduct pier crosshead was now in position. Upon the completion of the rebar installation, concrete pouring could be carried out to cast the crosshead. After curing, the formwork would be removed to allow viaduct construction works to commence. Other piers were also being prepared for crosshead casting and it is likely that viaduct construction will commence within this section first.

The pier nearest to the junction is having the framework installed. Following this, the formwork for the crosshead will be installed. |
At the station site, the casting of the first station pier's crosshead was completed. It is likely that further pre-cast segments will be added and post-tensioning work performed to "grow" out the crosshead further. Beams will then be installed to form the concourse level slab, with openings left for installation of lifts and escalator facilities. With the first pier's crosshead stubs completed, the second station pier was receiving the same treatment for casting of its' own crosshead. Further south, the remaining station piers had now been fully cast as well.

The southern viaduct section along Jurong West Street 75 also saw some progress. The single visible viaduct pier had now been partially cast. In future, this column will be within the road median, with the roadway passing underneath the portal frame. The column's counterpart could be seen outside Westwood Primary School with the rebar still at the base level.
