J111 & J112 / Jurong Industrial Estate stations - A 2024 progress report

We're on our way to wrapping up the progress made over the Jurong Region Line (JRL) through 2024. Thus far, we have covered the contracts for the stations, depot and viaducts under phases 1 & 2:

We now begin our final posts to conclude the progress report series with 2 more posts covering phase 3's southern and northern sections. This particular report will cover the southern section through the Jurong Industrial Estates.

Phase 3's southern section spans across 2 contracts - J111 & J112, each responsible for two stations. Milestones for the first contract - J111 - include the commencement of viaduct segment launching & construction and the commencement of station concourse level construction. Meanwhile, milestones seen over at the second contract - J112 - have included the commencement of station pier construction at Jurong Hill station and the commencement of viaduct segment launching works. We'll dive a little deeper into the specifics right after the jump.

J111 - Enterprise & Tukang update Q1 2024

21 March 2024 - A view northwards along Jalan Boon Lay of the southern approach to
Enterprise station in end-Q1.

21 March 2024 - A view northwards along Jalan Boon Lay of the Tukang station site in end-Q1.

Phase 3 of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) is probably one of the least inspiring sections due to its remote location in serving largely industrial areas. Nonetheless, we'll breeze through an update on this section for you to get an idea of how works are coming along on the southern section. Kicking off our phase 3 updates for Q1 2024 is none other than contract J111 for the construction of Enterprise and Tukang stations. Thus far, all the action seems to be taking place at Enterprise station with the viaduct pier columns becoming visible here while Tukang station still tackles bored piling works - rather, well, boring.

JRL3 year-end update 2023

The 7 station sites under phase 3 of the JRL as at end-2023.

Its the final day of 2023! To round up our year-end coverage, we're at the 3rd phase of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) which is spread over 2 sections - the northern section in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) & the southern section in Jurong Industrial Estate. The past year has seen significant progress, especially within NTU where teh structures are really starting to take shape visibly. Over on the southern section, structures are not as visible yet but multiple road diversions have taken place across the 2 civil contract sites located along the section. More after the jump, one last time for 2023!

J111 - Enterprise & Tukang update Q3 2023

A compilation of stations under contract J111 under construction in September 2023.

Phase 3 of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) traverses the industrial estates to the south and technological/educational districts to the north. As such, the section to the south is generally less interesting given that the line runs in the road median for the most part. Also given that Phase 3 has a later target revenue operations date of 2028, works are not in as advanced a stage as compared to those along Phases 1 & 2. Nonetheless, certain sections of the line had begun showing visible progress within Q3. Most notably of the southern section, the contract boundary between contracts J106 and J111 is of interest. Do head on over after the jump to see more!

J111 - Tukang update H1 2023

2 June 2023

The second station being built under contract J111 is Tukang. Located at the southern end of Jalan Boon Lay, near the namesake Jalan Tukang, the station will serve industrial buildings at the southern part of the Jurong Industrial Estate. Of the two stations under the contract, Tukang is the one slower in progress. This update covers the slight changes noted at the site over the first half of 2023.

We begin our review of the progress along Jurong Region Line (JRL) phase 3 by visiting Enterprise & Tukang stations under contract J111. Signs of works at different stages are apparent as the works begin to ramp up. We break the work activities on site according to station for easier reference.

J111 - Casting yard being prepared

10 September 2022 - A view of the casting yard
site preparation in progress.

10 September 2022 - Another view of the site.

10 September 2022

Several of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) civil contracts have their casting yards co-located within Tengah new town near the site of the Tengah Depot. These are for contracts J103, J105, J106 & J107. Contract J102's casting yard is also within Tengah new town, but located at the other end near the junction of Brickland Road & Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3. Lastly we know that contract J108's casting yard, also located within Tengah, is located near the Tengah junction where the east & west routes diverge. This leaves a number of contracts whose casting yards are not yet accounted for - namely J109, J110, J111, J112, J113 & J115A.

JRL3 Construction Update - Q3 2021

25 September 2021 - Slope stabilization works at Jurong Hill station site.

Phase 3 of the Jurong Region Line will be the last stage of the line to be commissioned.  This phase comprises of approximately 4 contracts - J111, J112, J113 & J115A. Of these, three have since been awarded, with 1 contract - J115A - being re-tendered. As this section of the line will be commissioned around 2028 to 2029, the works at the sites are not at an advanced stage yet with mostly utility works in progress. This is likely due to the contracts being recently awarded as well.

Pre-construction - Enterprise, Tukang, Jurong Hill & Jurong Pier

Several of the stations along the Jurong Region Line (JRL) serve the Jurong Industrial Estate. These stations - Enterprise, Tukang, Jurong Hill and Jurong Pier - will be built and commence operation under the third phase of the line in 2028.

Enterprise
Located near the Chin Bee Drive factories along Jalan Boon Lay, currently the area is a dual carriageway road. The station should be located along the road median with minimal impact to road lanes during construction.

Previously we looked at how the Jurong Region Line (JRL) may weave its way through to Jurong East & West Coast. Today we look at how it would weave itself to its other 2 terminals - NTU and Jurong Industrial Estate.
