With August now done & dusted, we are really in the tail end of Q3 of 2025. That means its a mere 2 years to go till the first section of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) is set to open - we're not quite sure which part of 2027 this would be, but that is the target year. The major milestone achieved through August 2025 has been the completion of viaduct span construction works for another contract. With this, 5 out of 12 contracts have completed such works. More details can be found after the jump.

JRL After Dark - August 2025

A compilation of the various Jurong Region Line station seen After Dark, before the lights go out.

So we thought we'd try something different - a spinoff from our usual Snapshot update to provide something new. This is the After Dark series - though we're not sure at this point if we can commit to providing such updates as regularly as the Snapshot series. The After Dark feature shows the JRL stations in the evenings, after sunset, where floodlights are used to allow night works up to 10pm. The 10pm cutoff rule is strictly observed to allow residents near the stations to have night time hours undisturbed by the bright lights. While the floodlights are on, its a great way for us to view features within the stations that might be otherwise be unseen during the daytime hours. We hope you'd enjoy the After Dark special.

Viaduct-wise, completion status is still the same along the line with 80% of the phase 1 contracts having completed span construction works. Station works are underway, with more stations commencing interior works. Track works have ramped up as well, with more stations beginning to receive rails as installation works slowly expand across the first phase of the network. All the details after the jump.

Before we know it, May has come and gone. Perhaps the month felt a little shorter due to the vacation that some of us took during the month. That said, the heat has been relentless over the past month. We're sure that the contractors on the Jurong Region Line (JRL) would have been feeling that - figuratively & literally. The good news is that there has been a significant amount of promising progress made through the various contracts. We'll take a look at this is slightly greater detail after the jump.

April has come upon us so quickly that we've had to rush to get this one out. There's been lots of progress made on the line with several milestones hit - including trackworks commencing on a new section of the line. With roof works underway across the entire phase 1 and viaducts coming together progressively over phase 2, we'll go through the accomplishments of each phase in greater detail after the jump.

J103 - An update in Q1 2025

The two stations being constructed under contract J103 in end-Q1 2025.

Contract J103 is a critical contract in the construction of the Jurong Region Line (JRL), owing that this contract is responsible for the construction of the reception tracks that connect the depot to the mainline. Without this critical connection, trains from the depot will not be able to access the main line for testing or for revenue service. Works through the past quarter have seen some milestones being achieved - namely the semi-completion of the main line viaduct span across the Pan Island Expressway (PIE), the commencement of escalator installation at both stations under the contract as well as interior fit out works taking place. We'll go through these developments in greater detail after the jump.

With things now coming back on track health-wise, we resumed going out and getting some updates to cover the quickly progressing Jurong Region Line (JRL) over March. Be warned, this snapshot update is a long, lengthy and juicy one.

J103 / Hong Kah, Corporation & Reception Tracks - A 2024 progress report

Stations of contract J103 seen at the end of 2024.

We're on a roll to wrap up progress made on the Jurong Region Line (JRL) through the 12 months of the year. This series began with contract J101 for the Tengah depot and was followed by contract J102 for Choa Chu Kang, Choa Chu Kang West & Tengah stations. We'll now continued on to contract J103 for Hong Kah and Corporation stations & the connecting Reception Tracks that link the main line with the depot.

Contract J103 has done well on the station building front but suffers on the viaduct construction aspect. The station buildings at both Hong Kah & Corporation have advanced to the stage of installation of the station roof frame and subsequent roofing works. However, there remain large gaps in the viaducts where spans were not yet constructed or viaduct piers were still being built. Of importance though, is to note that the former joint venture between Eng Lee & Wai Fong was affected by the former's financial performance which ultimately saw the company shut down, leaving the latter to carry on with the project as the sole contractor. More on these issues after the jump.

August has been a busy month for the Jurong Region Line (JRL) with several milestones being achieved. Contract J102 saw the handover of completed viaduct spans to trackworks contractor under contract J150 and contract J109 saw the lifting of the launch gantry for viaduct construction at Jurong Town Hall's station site. In addition, roof frame installation works were ongoing at Hong Kah (JS4), Corporation (JS5) and Jurong West (JS6) stations. More details on the progress made at the various sites after the jump.

J103 - Hong Kah & Corporation update Q2 2024

Hong Kah & Corporation stations as seen in end-Q2.

Contract J103 has seen some of the greatest progress in station construction while at the same time, the slowest of viaduct progress among the first phase of the Jurong Region Line (JRL). Over the past quarter, Corporation station has emerged as the most complete along the line while Hong Kah's stagnated progress has finally made some headway. The viaducts however, were still far from completion - a critical component of the line and its operation, given that the viaducts under the purview of the contract also connect the main line with the depot. We'll explore the progress made under the contract over Q2 in greater detail after the jump - do be fair warned, this post is highly picture-intensive.

The various contracts along this phase are rushing to have the civil works completed in order to meet the targeted completion date. We understand that the targeted completion of works for Phase 1 would be around end-2026. In order to allow for sufficient time for fitting out and testing of systems, the basic structures would need to be completed approximately 2 to 2.5 years ahead. Given that this will be the first section of line to begin operations, further time may be required for testing of the new equipment to ensure that all issues are ironed out sufficiently.

Meanwhile, Phase 2 has a targeted completion date of mid-2027. Bringing up the remainder of the line, the targeted completion date for Phase 3 of the line is by September 2028. As such, the contractors for Phase 1 should begin feeling the pressure to meet the deadlines for handover of the completed structures to the trackworks contractors for the next phase of construction.
