Committee of Supply debate 2025 - West Coast extension

Today, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) provided an update during the Ministry of Transport's Committee of Supply debate on the developments of the West Coast Extension of the Jurong Region Line (JRL). First mentioned in 2013, news on the fate of the extension was hard to come by. The decision to press on with the extension may have been affected in part by the extensive disruption to the East-West Line (EWL) in September 2024.

Some updates to the extension include the sector being completed in phases and a change in the end point of the extension. Previously, the extension was thought to have linked the JRL with the Circle Line (CCL) at the Haw Par Villa station. Today's announcement saw this being shifted to Kent Ridge station on the CCL instead, due to factors such as future developments and technical feasibility. The sector reaching Kent Ridge would also be part of the second phase of the extension, with the first connecting the JRL with the Cross Island Line (CRL) at West Coast station by the late 2030's.

As we continue our coverage of the JRL's construction, we'll be sure to provide more updates on the West Coast Extension as more details become available in due time.

After years of awaiting for announcements pertaining to this line, we have fine tuned our station predictions based on available information. We are certain that the official station locations will be announced this year. The above image is a mock up of the line map that may be used in the train interiors. Please bear in mind that this production is solely intended for visualization purposes and that the JRL Construction Blog is not affiliated with the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The official alignment, line colour and schematic will be produced by the LTA.

Having explored the roads that the Jurong Region Line (JRL) may align with, here is our speculative map of the station locations. Once again, we reiterate that these station locations are part of our prediction based on available information and site conditions, not the final location or announcement by relevant authorities.

West Coast Extension

Source: Land Transport Authority Facebook page
The Land Transport Authority announced the possibility of the Jurong Region Line being extended from the current planned terminus in the West Coast vicinity to connect with the Circle Line. This proposed extension has been suggested by multiple commuters to improve connectivity from the western region to the Central Business District and other areas via the completed Circle Line with stage 6 plugging the remaining gap. It is good news to know that the authorities see the wisdom in investing in this suggestion.

The extension would be approximately 5km long and potentially connect at Haw Par Villa station on the Circle Line. We expect that the extension should pass through the population centres along West Coast Road: West Coast Drive, West Coast Plaza, Clementi Woods, Kent Ridge terminal, Heng Mui Keng, Science Park II and Haw Par Villa for interchange to the Circle Line.
