J113 & J115A / Nanyang Technological University stations - A 2024 progress report

As the Jurong Region Line (JRL) comes to the end of its run in Peng Kang Hill, so do we in our JRL 2024 progress report. This report marks the completion of our coverage for the line's progress updates over 2024. Before we jump into that, you can recap the rest of the line's progress in the various reports we've produced this month:

In our final update report, we cover the remaining two contracts for the phase 3's northern section in Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Served by three stations, the first two are being constructed under contract J113 and the final station under revised contract J115A. All three stations and two contracts were awarded to the same contractor - Hwa Seng Builder - easing the process of construction and standardisation of noise mitigation & environmental control measures. Some milestones that the contracts in this section have accomplished include the commencement of station building construction and commencement of viaduct segment launching works. J113 & J115A - Nanyang Gateway, Nanyang Crescent & Peng Kang Hill update Q1 2024

To complete our Q1 updates of the Jurong Region Line (JRL), we're at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) where the line's northern section of phase 3 is located. Consisting of 2 contracts covering 3 stations, this section was awarded entirely to Hwa Seng Builders, greatly simplifying the works required by using only a single contractor for the entirety of the works. Equipment can be shared and the contractor can better control construction traffic entering & exiting the university.

JRL3 year-end update 2023

Its the final day of 2023! To round up our year-end coverage, we're at the 3rd phase of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) which is spread over 2 sections - the northern section in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) & the southern section in Jurong Industrial Estate. The past year has seen significant progress, especially within NTU where teh structures are really starting to take shape visibly. Over on the southern section, structures are not as visible yet but multiple road diversions have taken place across the 2 civil contract sites located along the section. J113 - More piers in NTU | Nanyang Gateway update Q3 2023

Over the past 9 months since we last updated on the stations at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the various construction sites here have made some significant progress. Contract J113 for the construction of Nanyang Gateway and Nanyang Crescent  Jurong Region Line (JRL) stations has seen quick progress with several piers slowly climbing upwards as work progresses within the university. In our previous post, we covered the semi-completed piers near Nanyang Crescent station, thus this post will focus on the sites near to Nanyang Gateway station.

A recent post by MP for Keat Hong divison, Mr. Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, showed a visit to the Jurong Region Line (JRL) Project Information Centre (PIC) featuring new station architectural models. Our team made a visit to the JRL PIC today to check out the new additions to the collection.

The final part of the third phase of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) extends from the northern end and winds its way through the Nanyang Technological University (NTU). This section has 2 contracts spanning 3 stations - contract J113 for the construction of Nanyang Gateway & Nanyang Crescent stations and contract J115A for the construction of Peng Kang Hill station.

Recently we came across several new renders of the JRL stations along phase 3. Here's a compilation of all the renders for the phase 3 stations that we've managed to accumulate over time. New renders are available for practically all the stations in this phase.

JRL3 Construction Update - Q3 2021

 

25 September 2021 - Slope stabilization works at Jurong Hill station site.

Phase 3 of the Jurong Region Line will be the last stage of the line to be commissioned.  This phase comprises of approximately 4 contracts - J111, J112, J113 & J115A. Of these, three have since been awarded, with 1 contract - J115A - being re-tendered. As this section of the line will be commissioned around 2028 to 2029, the works at the sites are not at an advanced stage yet with mostly utility works in progress. This is likely due to the contracts being recently awarded as well.

JRL3 - Tender process begins & J106 update

On 30 August 2019, the Land Transport Authority kicked off the tendering process for the third and final phase of the Jurong Region Line. Contract J113 for the design and construction of Nanyang Gateway and Nanyang Crescent stations with associated viaducts was released for tender. With a tentative closing date of 20 December 2019, interested parties that have been pre-qualified will have approximately 4 months to submit bids for the project. The deadline for submissions, however, is likely to be extended based on experience with other similar contracts. Contract J113 is due for completion by 30 December 2027, in time for the JRL's phase 3 operations in the following year, 2028.

Pre-construction - Nanyang Gateway

Nanyang Gateway serves as the first of 3 stations located within Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Currently disconnected from any rail service, the line will run through the heart of NTU providing easier access for the university students to transfer to other radial lines for travel to other parts of the island.
