The 7 station sites under phase 3 of the JRL as at end-2023. |
Its the final day of 2023! To round up our year-end coverage, we're at the 3rd phase of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) which is spread over 2 sections - the northern section in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) & the southern section in Jurong Industrial Estate. The past year has seen significant progress, especially within NTU where teh structures are really starting to take shape visibly. Over on the southern section, structures are not as visible yet but multiple road diversions have taken place across the 2 civil contract sites located along the section. More after the jump, one last time for 2023!
JS9 - Enterprise [Contract J111]
The site has progressed the most visibly along the southern section of JRL's phase 3. At the beginning of the year, the site was just commencing its road diversions. However, by the end of the year, the first few viaduct piers could be seen at the northern end of the site as the line turns southwards onto Jalan Boon Lay to enter the station.

JS10 - Tukang [Contract J111]
Also under contract J111, Tukang station is moving at a slower speed than its northern sister. Road diversions were implemented much later than at Enterprise station and no structures can be seen at the work site as at the end of the year.

JS11 - Jurong Hill [Contract J112]
Despite the site changing drastically, Jurong Hill does not yet have any permanent structures to show for all the work put in. At the beginning of the year, the pedestrian overhead bridge across Jurong Pier Road was removed and subsequently demolished to make way for the line's construction. The road median was widened and the northbound carriageway pushed further west towards the base of the hill to create a work space in the road median. Apart from that, it appears that piling work for the station's foundation has begun.

JS12 - Jurong Pier [Contract J112]
2023 was the year that the base structures for the station began to emerge. Mostly the footings for the station columns, rebar and concrete stumps can be seen at the street level and have yet to progress further upwards despite having made an appearance this year. The subway-connected exit's site has been cleared in the later part of the year and construction should commence soon.

JW3 - Nanyang Gateway [Contract J113]
Over at the northern section, the Nanyang Gateway station is still at the foundation construction level. However, the piers on either side of the station have been coming up fast & furious. Most of the visible progress is in part due to the casting of the viaduct piers.

JW4 - Nanyang Crescent [Contract J113]
Being built under the same contract & contractor as Nanyang Gateway station results in a similar story for Nanyang Crescent station. Work on the viaduct piers sees the most significant, visible progress while the station structure does not have any visible components yet. We understand that after our series of pictures were taken at the end of the year, several viaduct segments were launched at the first few piers with crossheads cast.

JW5 - Peng Kang Hill [Contract J115A]
Being the last contract to be awarded along the entire JRL, Peng Kang Hill is understandably the slowest moving of all the stations when it comes to construction. Site preparation was still in progress although at the end of the year the deployment of heavy machinery to the site was a welcome change. We look forward to things picking up the pace come 2024.

2023 was an eventful year with several of the contracts along Phase 3 commencing works. Some have made tremendous progress with piers popping up to show for the work put in while others are taking a longer time to show some results. Either way, we wish you a Happy New Year ahead. May 2024 shine ever brighter & bring more progress to one & all.
