We are quickly approaching the mid-point of the year. The progress along the Jurong Region Line (JRL) is also beginning to pick up the pace further. This snapshot feature brings you a quick update on the progress made over the past month across the JRL.

Phase 1
Stations along this phase of the project are the most advanced in construction along the project. Several sections of viaduct are completed, while other sections still have viaduct piers still at the foundation and pier cap stage - a pretty wide ranging difference in construction progress.

Tengah depot (Contract J101)
In a nutshell: Work at the site was still rather messy with different sections of the depot at different stages of construction. Where possible, ballast, sleepers, electrical troughs and rails have been laid. However, the workshops and stabling yards still had the structures to be completed before systems works can be conducted within. A recent development is the emergence of the cable bridge that will serve to allow cables to connect the load centre near the ramp with workshops and stabling sheds.

JS1 - Choa Chu Kang (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: The most obvious signs of the progress at this site is within the existing North-South Line (NSL) station. Works at the platform and concourse level are beginning to be be unveiled - a new set of stairs can be seen at the platform's northern end and the new passenger service centre can be seen near Exit A of the concourse. Retail shops near Exit A are also nearing completion of their rebuild. Further along, viaduct piers near the station are beginning to take shape while other sections already have viaduct segments spans completed.

JS2 - Choa Chu Kang West (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: Along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3, the next station is beginning to take shape with work on the under-platform level progressing. The under-platform level allows cables and other utility lines to be run through away from passenger-fronting areas. Elsewhere along the roadway, viaduct segment launching has begun. Part of the portal pier near the junction with Choa Chu Kang Way has seen the viaduct deck cast with a single large viaduct segment to be used for both trackways.

JS2A - Forest Hill (Contract J102, provisional future station)
In a nutshell: Launch gantry Mulan has recently returned to the site, having completed launching between the future infill station and neighbouring Tengah station. The gantry will presumably complete launching of the viaduct segments to the special crossing over Brickland Road. Work is almost complete for the special crossing as well, with only a few more segments to be launched before the span can be joined.

JS3 - Tengah (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: With the opening of new build-to-order (BTO) precinct Tengah Vines, a new vantage point has now become available from which construction of the JRL within Tengah can be observed. However, trees still block the view of the future station located in the town's centre.

JS4 - Hong Kah (Contract J103)
In a nutshell: Work at Hong Kah station is finally picking up speed, with works approaching the platform level. Several viaduct piers to the south of the station continue to be cast, allowing works to progress further in time to come.

Reception tracks (Contract J103)
In a nutshell: Launching of viaduct segments for the reception tracks is a crucial component in the operation of the JRL and continues to make progress. Without the reception tracks connecting the depot to the mainline, it is incredibly difficult for the line to operate as the depot houses the trains that run along the line as well as the nerve centre for the line at the Operations Control Centre (OCC). Ultimately, Tengah depot will be connected to the mainline by two sets of reception tracks linking to Hong Kah and Corporation stations. Work on viaduct launching is nowhere close to being done and will likely extend till mid-2025 at the very least.

JS5 - Corporation (Contract J103)
In a nutshell: Corporation station appears to be one of the most complete stations along Phase 1 thus far. As of June, all 7 of the V-columns at platform level have been installed. Also installed is the first linkbridge connecting to a station exit along the JRL. Lift shafts within the station have also been put in place. To the west of the station, work continues along Jurong West Avenue 2 for viaduct segment launching.

JS6 - Jurong West (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: Jurong West station has made great strides, with casting work at the platform level nearing completion. The trackbeds within the station platform area are now easily visible from higher levels of nearby blocks. Work has begun on casting the viaduct deck between the two trackways west of the station as a crossover will be located here.

JS7 - Bahar Junction (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: Launching works for the satellite station's concourse level have been completed on one side of the station. Using the balanced cantilever method of launching, the lifting frame has been brought over to the southern side of the station to continue the segment launching process. Casting work at the main station building has progressed to the platform level, with the station's shape now easily visible.

JS8 - Boon Lay (Contract J106)
In a nutshell: Both halves of Boon Lay station have sprung up around the existing East-West Line (EWL) viaducts. According to the contractor, precast beams will need to be laid here over the EWL viaducts. Viaduct segment launching works continue at sites both to the north and the south of the station.

JW1 - Gek Poh (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: With work on installation of the precast U-beams for the concourse level arms completed, work has progressed to casting the concourse level viaduct piers. These will provide support for the trackbed as well as the platform level through a similar layout as the concourse level. Viaduct span construction south of the station has also commenced, along with viaduct pier crosshead casting works.

JW2 - Tawas (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: Work on the station's platform level is well underway. Launching of viaduct segments for the special span crossing over the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) is also progressing well, with one of the lifting machines being assembled on the PIE-side. A second machine will soon be lifted up on the side facing Gek Poh neighbourhood to maintain balance as segments are lifted on both ends of the pier.

Phase 2
Work on Phase 2 is not far behind, with some stations also reaching the platform level. Most stretches of viaduct along one of the contracts has been completed, with parapet wall installation commencing. There are several special span crossings along this stretch as well, for which work is underway to ensure that the construction of these spans does not impact traffic below adversely.

JE1 - Tengah Plantation (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: Among one of the stations at a more advanced stage of construction, the station has been casting the under-platform level. Precast segments have been used to speed up works ahead of the platform slab casting, which will be the next stage of construction to be seen. Viaduct construction is still ongoing to bridge the gaps on the eastern and western sides of the station.

JE2 - Tengah Park (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: Casting work has recently moved to the under-platform level at this station as well. In addition, work to connect the last spans of the viaduct on the northern side has progressed using the trestle method with segments for one span on the Pandan Reservoir-bound track being launched. Work is underway to repeat the process on the Tengah-bound trackway for both the spans to the north and the south of the station. Parapet installation work has commenced to the south of the station, where the cripple siding will be located. Meanwhile, work on the electrical substation has progressed to allow us to see the stumps upon which the transformers will sit upon.

JE3 - Bukit Batok West (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: The western half of the station has progressed to the casting of the concourse level while the eastern half still works on the foundation elements. Viaduct construction to the west of the station is picking up with the viaduct piers being prepped for segment launching. Lifting frames for the special span across Bukit Batok Road have been set up ahead of span construction.

JE4 - Toh Guan (Contract J109)
In a nutshell: With recent closures in the night along Jurong East Central, the first of approximately 10 station piers have began to show the completed crossheads after casting work has progressed. Several more station pier columns require casting before the process of street closure can be a thing of the past. Viaduct pier construction still continues to the north and south of the station with no viaduct span construction taking place here yet. However, across the PIE within Bukit Batok, a few spans were under construction along the approach to the special span crossing over the expressway.

Tracks through Jurong East Integrated Transport Hub (Contract J120)
In a nutshell: The second pair of viaduct spans have been cast in-situ (in place). The formwork for the second pair of viaducts was also in the process of being removed. Subsequent viaduct piers within the site were in various stages of construction to support the viaduct spans as they separate to approach the side stacked station.

JE5 - Jurong East (Contract J110)
In a nutshell: Work to cast the concourse level of the station has been progressing from the western end to the eastern end. At the western end, rebar for the station columns had been added, reaching up to the platform level. Construction of the station transfer plaza and hub at the western end that would allow transfers between the upper platform and rest of the platforms at the lower level also progressed at the street level.

JE6 - Jurong Town Hall (Contract J109)
In a nutshell: Segments of the launch gantry to be used along the sector continue to be moved around as the truss frames are slowly assembled. Viaduct piers on the north side of the station were taking shape with casting up to the crown level completed. Piers on the southern side are less complete with the columns only half-cast.

JE7 - Pandan Reservoir (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: Work at the station building has progressed slowly, with casting beginning on the concourse level. About half of the station's columns have since been cast, with the columns on the northern half being the ones done. The columns of the southern half were at less advanced stages of completion. Viaduct piers running parallel to the reservoir had partially cast columns.

Phase 3 (South)
Station buildings on either end of the section were the most advanced stages of construction of the four stops along the stretch. The two stations in the middle of the section were less advanced by comparison. Viaduct piers were also beginning to take shape, with viaduct segment launching underway at the section closest to the contract boundary with Boon Lay station.

JS9 - Enterprise (Contract J111)
In a nutshell: Several station pier columns were already cast while others were having rebar installed. Other columns were still focused on constructing the foundations. To the north, viaduct piers were well advanced, with the crossheads for at least 2 piers being cast. On the southern end, viaduct piers were also quickly advancing. The most advanced of the piers are located near Jurong Central Park, with viaduct segment launching taking place here. Segment launching for the first span from the first pier are anticipated to be completed by July.

JS10 - Tukang (Contract J111)
In a nutshell: Works at Tukang station are focused on foundation works with sheet piles visible. Pile caps would be cast within and thereafter back filled over.

JS11 - Jurong Hill (Contract J112)
In a nutshell: Similar to Tukang station, works were focused on the foundations of the station. Sheet piles were also visible here for construction of the pile caps.

In a nutshell: Work at the station is becoming more visible with the construction of a column in the station that extends higher above the rest of the structures. Low walls on the northern and eastern flanks are also another visible segment of the station's building.

Phase 3 (North)
The last section of the JRL has seen progress advance quickly in the Nanyang Technological University. Viaduct segment launching has progressed swiftly at multiple sites within the university. Station buildings were also beginning to come up with more parts of the stations such as columns being cast.

JW3 - Nanyang Gateway (Contract J113)
In a nutshell: The station's columns have since been cast although some of the columns were still seen as rebar cages. Viaduct span construction on either side of the station building continued to make progress with the viaducts taking shape.

JW4 - Nanyang Crescent (Contract J113)
In a nutshell: Excavation for the lower concourse level has exposed the retaining wall near the National Institute of Education. Rebar for the base of columns for the station can be seen through the length of the station building.

JW5 - Peng Kang Hill (Contract J115A)
In a nutshell: Work at the station building site had commenced on the foundation elements. An auger machine can be seen as well as an excavator attached with a vibro-hammer for driving sheet piles into the ground. To the north of the station, the base of viaduct pier columns had began to take shape with casting for the base sections completed. To the south of the station, one of the bases of final viaduct piers had also taken shape.
