Over the past 9 months since we last updated on the stations at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the various construction sites here have made some significant progress. Contract J113 for the construction of Nanyang Gateway and Nanyang Crescent Jurong Region Line (JRL) stations has seen quick progress with several piers slowly climbing upwards as work progresses within the university. In our previous post, we covered the semi-completed piers near Nanyang Crescent station, thus this post will focus on the sites near to Nanyang Gateway station.
Station site
At the beginning of the year, the station site had implemented a road diversion that pushed Nanyang Avenue further north, towards Halls 10 & 11. This followed the completion of works to cover up the large drain that was present there and allowed for station foundation works to commence at the site of the former roadway.
In September, bored piling works were well underway at the site that will create the foundation for the station which will be directly above the roadway.

Viaduct site eastThe viaduct site to the east of the station will see the line swinging south to connect with the viaduct at neighbouring contract J107, north of Tawas station. In the earlier part of the year, the site was rather nondescript with not much activity taking place.
However by September, one of the first piers here could be seen being constructed with the rebar skeleton being established first. Later on, the rebar was encased in formwork and casting would take place. As of September, only 1 pier has been noted to be under construction here.

With several viaduct piers already being cast, it will be a matter of time before viaduct construction begins within the university. We look forward to further milestones being achieved for the third phase of the line and will be sure to bring you updates on these in due time.
