J112 - Jurong Hill & Jurong Pier 2022 year-end update

The third phase of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) ends at Jurong Pier on the southern leg, under contract J112. The contract also includes the construction of the Jurong Hill station, near the soon to be former Jurong Bird Park. We check in on the progress made with a few photos taken in December 2022 to close out the year.

Jurong Hill
The Jurong Hill station will be located above Jurong Pier Road which will need to see the eventual demolition of the existing pedestrian overhead bridge. To add complexity to the project, the site is also constrained by the approach ramp for the Jurong Pier flyover and an upcoming underpass below the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) nearby.

Some soil nailing has been done to stabilise part of the slope that has been excavated adjacent to the station site and prevent collapse. The excavated portion of the slope enables the contractor to have space for construction works and potential road diversion that may be necessary to facilitate station works. Apart from this, there is not much other visible progress in works on site that pertain to the final station or viaduct structure.

Jurong Pier
Mobilisation and site preparation works are currently underway at Jurong Pier station site. Nestled next to the Jurong Pier flyover, the station site has been hoarded up earlier in the year and now some machinery has moved in. Jersey barriers can be seen on the northern end of the site, indicating that these may be set up to redirect traffic flow as necessary.

One can expect there to be an increase in the pace of the bored piling works to pick up following the near year holiday break. By the end of the year, there should be some evidence of viaduct piers popping up as well, ahead of viaduct construction commencing. Do stay tuned as we provide more coverage on the progress made in due time.
