J109 / Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall & Pandan Reservoir - A 2024 progress report

We're into phase 2 of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) 2024 progress report. Before we jump into all the details for contract J109, here are some of the previous contracts that we've reported on for the year:


Moving onto contract J109 proper, some of the milestones that the contract has seen this year includes the completion of casting of concourse level crossheads at Toh Guan station and the commencement of viaduct segment launching at Jurong Town Hall. This contract is a little less advanced in terms of progress as compared to contract J108, but nonetheless has been making steady progress as well. All the details after the jump.

J109 - Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall & Pandan Reservoir update Q2 2024

Contract J109's three stations - Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall & Pandan Reservoir - saw slight progress. The station site with the most progress over the quarter was Toh Guan, which saw the station's concourse level crossheads constructed. Works at Jurong Town Hall and Pandan Reservoir station were unfortunately a little slower through the quarter, with not as much visible progress seen. We take a look at the progress made through the quarter after the jump.

Contract J106 entails the construction of Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall and Pandan Reservoir stations. Over the past quarter, the most changes can be seen over at Toh Guan station with the formwork for the first station pier's concourse level crosshead can be seen. At Jurong Town Hall however, things were a little slower with casting work continuing over at the concourse level slab. Pandan Reservoir station saw similar progress, with work still mostly focused on the street level foundations and underfloor cable troughs. We'll dive deeper into the works at the various sites under the contract.

J109 - Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall & Pandan Reservoir update Q3 2023

A compilation of progress at the 3 station sites as at September 2023.

Q3 of 2023 has been a fruitful one for contract J109. Although there may not have been as visible progress as contract J108, the stations and viaduct piers under this contract has been making in-roads to completion of the structures for the line. While work at contract J109's Jurong Town Hall station site has been progressing, the rate at which it has been doing so is a little slow. Over the past quarter - Q2 of 2023 - there have not been many noticeable differences. We begin our Q2 review of this Jurong Region Line (JRL) station with a look back at the site towards the end of Q1 to jog our memories on how the site looked then.

J109 - Jurong Town Hall year-end update

 The base of Jurong Town Hall station is beginning to take shape with the footings now becoming visible. The station will sit on the side table of the road and have an elevated concourse level that will be linked to further exits across the road by an overhead bridge. With this, the platforms will be located at level 3 of the station structure.

We hope that you've enjoyed our previous post on the renders of the phase 1 stations of the Jurong Region Line (JRL). We're back with more now, this time for phase 2 which will run towards mega-hub Jurong East and onwards to the Pandan Reservoir.

J109 Construction Update - Q3 2021

As our previous post was getting rather long, we decided to split up the updates for easier readability. This section will cover updates on contract J109, the second contract under phase 2 of the Jurong Region Line (JRL). Contract J109 was won by Daewoo - Yongnam joint venture and involves the construction of Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall & Pandan Reservoir stations. Interestingly this contract is split into 2 sectors located north and south of Jurong East interchange which will be built under a separate contract, being contract J110 won by Daelim.

Contract awards - J109, J152, J155 & J160

On Friday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced the award of 4 contracts for the Jurong Region Line (JRL). The first contract awarded was for J109 which will include the construction of Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall and Pandan Reservoir stations along with associated viaducts and commuter facilities. This contract has been awarded to the joint venture of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co Ltd - Yongnam Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd. Daewoo is currently constructing the Stevens station on the Thomson-East Coast Line while Yongnam has been a key supplier of struts used in the construction of several underground MRT stations.

JRL2 - All contracts released for bid

The Land Transport Authority released the last tender for phase 2 of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) on 31st July 2019 - contract J109 for the design & construction of Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall and Pandan Reservoir stations, viaducts inclusive. With the release of tender bidding for contract J109, all contracts for phase 2 of the line have been floated for tender.

Pre-construction - Jurong Town Hall

Jurong Town Hall station will be located along Jurong Town Hall Road, within the Jurong Country Club grounds, across from the International Business Park. The area is currently vegetated and not much exists within the golf course compound at the moment.

Roads JRL may align with - Jurong East branch

In our previous post, we touched on the location shift of Choa Chu Kang bus interchange to make way for the Jurong Region Line (JRL) station. In this post, we explore the potential roads that the JRL may align with along the Jurong East & West Coast branch.
