JRL After Dark - August 2025

A compilation of the various Jurong Region Line station seen After Dark, before the lights go out.

So we thought we'd try something different - a spinoff from our usual Snapshot update to provide something new. This is the After Dark series - though we're not sure at this point if we can commit to providing such updates as regularly as the Snapshot series. The After Dark feature shows the JRL stations in the evenings, after sunset, where floodlights are used to allow night works up to 10pm. The 10pm cutoff rule is strictly observed to allow residents near the stations to have night time hours undisturbed by the bright lights. While the floodlights are on, its a great way for us to view features within the stations that might be otherwise be unseen during the daytime hours. We hope you'd enjoy the After Dark special.

Phase 1
Stations under the first phase are likely to have the most details unveiled after dark, where difficult to see areas become well lit. With the floodlights on, it become possible to see how many escalators have been installed and other smaller details that may be missed out during the daylight hours.

JS5 - Corporation (Contract J103)
In a nutshell: The station platform area appeared to be well lit, with the concourse more dimly lit. However when moving closer to the location, the lights were thereafter switched off, leaving us unable to make out the finer details that we would have liked to see. Nonetheless, it is possible to make out the base of the frame in which glass panels will be installed along the concourse level of the station.

JS6 - Jurong West (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: Similar to Corporation station, the platform level was more well lit than the concourse level. Here, it was possible to make out details such as that at least 2 sets of escalators have been installed at the station (there is space for 4).

JS7 - Bahar Junction (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: The night view at Bahar Junction unveiled a couple of things - firstly that the rail laying works have completely passed through the satellite station and that escalator installation within the satellite building has commenced.

JS8 - Boon Lay (Contract J106)
In a nutshell: At Boon Lay station, the floodlights helped to unveil that escalators were being installed at the northern side of the station to connect the concourse and platform levels. Escalators were already installed at the southern side of the station, between the linkbridge and concourse levels.

JW1 - Gek Poh (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: The night view showed construction works in progress for the numerous sets of staircases connect the concourse and platform levels. In all, there would be between approximately 6 to 8 such sets available. In all, 4 escalators connecting the 2 levels have also been installed at the station.

JW2 - Tawas (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: The view of the station in the dusk and twilight were amazing. Nonetheless, at this station, the concourse was the more brightly lit section. Similar to sister station Gek Poh, a lot of staircases were being built to connect the concourse and platform levels. It still appears as though no escalators were installed yet.

Phase 2
Subsequent stations were still at the structural construction phase, hence works might not unveil anything too foreign. Nonetheless, the floodlights do provide a glimpse into the progress made thus far.

JE1 - Tengah Plantation (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: Casting works were ongoing for the station plant rooms at platform level, thus the station interior itself was not very well lit. No additional details for the station's interior could be made out either.

JE2 - Tengah Park (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: While the station's interior was very well lit, the noise barrier unfortunately blocked the views. It appears that while the equipment for escalator installation is present, there has not been much progress on getting them into position. This was achieved much quicker at the exit outside Dulwich College though.

JE5 - Jurong East (Contract J110)
In a nutshell: The multi-storey station addition is one of the structures that was being built parallel to the original station building, allowing it to be easily viewed. The addition of floodlights at night provide an opportunity to view the lower platform level in slightly greater detail. At the moment, no escalators have been added in yet.

Phase 3 (South)
Interestingly, the phase 3 stations were also beginning to catch up in terms of structural completion. With the southern section being located near largely industrial areas, there might not be as much of a need to switch the lights off past 10pm - we didn't stick around long enough to find out.

JS9 - Enterprise (Contract J111)
In a nutshell: This is the one station along the southern stretch that is located somewhat near residential areas, or at least has the potential to cause disturbance from lights being switched on. Nonetheless, the lights show that structures at the concourse level have taken shape quickly, with the platform level following suit.
