Today, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) provided an update during the Ministry of Transport's Committee of Supply debate on the developments of the West Coast Extension of the Jurong Region Line (JRL). First mentioned in 2013, news on the fate of the extension was hard to come by. The decision to press on with the extension may have been affected in part by the extensive disruption to the East-West Line (EWL) in September 2024.

Some updates to the extension include the sector being completed in phases and a change in the end point of the extension. Previously, the extension was thought to have linked the JRL with the Circle Line (CCL) at the Haw Par Villa station. Today's announcement saw this being shifted to Kent Ridge station on the CCL instead, due to factors such as future developments and technical feasibility. The sector reaching Kent Ridge would also be part of the second phase of the extension, with the first connecting the JRL with the Cross Island Line (CRL) at West Coast station by the late 2030's.

As we continue our coverage of the JRL's construction, we'll be sure to provide more updates on the West Coast Extension as more details become available in due time.
