J105 - Bahar Junction update Q3 2023

If any station or site were to give Tengah a run for its money, hands down it would be Bahar Junction. Three platforms - check. Straddling three different roadways - check. Building the station above a junction as well? Check. Amazingly, progress is starting to make up some ground over the past quarter as the construction of the station shifts gears from foundation and pier-work to casting of the supporting crossheads and concourse slab. Mid-way through the past quarter, road diversions were also put in place which constrained the road capacity at the key junction where Jurong West Avenue 4 meets Streets 64 and 75 - all major thoroughfares.

The station has no shortage of vantage points, from which construction work can be observed. Especially useful is a vantage point located close to the junction. From here, one is able to see the various changes that have taken place over the past quarter, especially with the implementation of the road diversions to allow for casting of the crossheads to take place.

13 August 2023 - An aerial view on the first day of major road diversions at the junction which also
saw a reduction in the number of lanes available to motorists. Some congestion was experienced
due to the lack of familiarity with the new roadway layout.

10 September 2023 - With some time since the implementation of the road diversions, motorists
were more familiar with the road layout by end-Q3 2023. The congestion on site was not as bad
as when the diversions were first introduced.

Satellite station & platform for Tawas/Peng Kang Hill
With a unique 3-platformed, T-shape layout, we take a closer look at what the contractor refers to as a satellite station. This section runs parallel to and above Jurong West Streets 64 & 75. Eventually, a double level link bridge at both platform and concourse levels will allow commuters to transfer between the main building & the satellite building.

Main station & platforms for Choa Chu Kang & Boon Lay/Jurong Pier
Having looked at the progress of the satellite station building which spans the junction between Jurong West Avenues 2 & 4 and Jurong West Streets 64 & 75, we now take a look at the main station building. This section features a typical island platform, with the Boon Lay/Jurong Pier-bound track sitting in the road median. The Choa Chu Kang-bound track on the other hand, sits on the northern side table along the eastbound carriageway of Jurong West Avenue 2. On the western end of the station, the tracks diverge and turn approximately 90 degrees southwards to Jurong West Street 64 for the Boon Lay/Jurong Pier-bound track and 90 degrees northwards to Jurong West Street 75 for the Choa Chu Kang-bound track.

Over the past quarter, work has commenced on constructing the station columns that will support the Choa Chu Kang-bound track. These have come up rather quickly and the main station area has had several beams cast or in the process of being cast to connect the columns together. Additionally, junction reconfiguration works had taken place in the middle of the quarter.

With the progress made over the past quarter, the shape of the unique station is beginning to form up. The construction works and sequences are confusing, just like how the station is likely to befuddle future passengers that pass through on their commute.
