15 June 2023 - Various viaduct piers under construction within Jurong Central Park, south of Boon
Lay station and next to the junction between Jurong West Street 64 & Boon Lay Way.

Contract J111 is for the construction of Enterprise & Tukang stations on the Jurong Region Line (JRL) and associated viaducts. For this update, we're taking a look at the progress at the contract up to the area around Enterprise station. The viaducts begin at the contract boundary with contract J106, along Jurong West Street 64, roughly opposite block 661C. Our update will span till the junction of Jalan Boon Lay & International Road.

Viaducts between Jurong West Street 64 & Jalan Boon Lay
The viaducts south of Boon Lay station and its overrun will be constructed under contract J111. The viaducts are likely to remain as separate beams before coming to a cripple siding over Jurong Central Park. Along Jurong West Street 64, the base of the pier columns are beginning to emerge after the completion of the pile cap. It will likely take a while for the back filling to complete on top of the pile cap, after which rebar installation can begin. As such, we are likely to see the piers cast in the next quarter.

In Jurong Central Park, the beams span either side of the canal, likely to form a portal pier on top. The piers along this stretch are beginning to take shape with the rebar installation ongoing within this quarter. Owing to the more complicated structure, with the portal spanning over the canal, the crosshead is likely to take more time to construct. This may be a reason for the quicker construction of the pier columns.

Works along Jalan Boon Lay
Over the course of the past quarter, with the roadway diverted, works have been a little slow as compared to the viaducts nearer to the Boon Lay station. The heavy equipment seen on site in April is still there as of June. The old, former roadway can still be seen within the worksite with the kerbs yet to be demolished. Some empty silos are now on site, waiting to be positioned. Other than this, there does not yet appear to be a whole lot to report about.

In a recent update, the contractor & Land Transport Authority (LTA) detailed the upcoming works at various sectors within the contract. Zones 1 & 2 are at the most advanced stages of construction out of the 7, as depicted in the photos. Viaduct pier construction is estimated to be complete by Q4 of the year with viaduct span construction beginning thereafter. The viaduct span construction stage is anticipated to be completed by around Q2 of 2024 for these sectors.

Zone 3 is located where the line swings out from cutting across Jurong Central Park to Jalan Boon Lay. Zone 4 is where the Enterprise station will be located, right above the junction with Enterprise Road. Zone 5 encompasses the area immediately after Enterprise station and up to the area before the junction with International Road. Zone 6 covers the junction with International Road while Zone 7 covers Tukang station. The anticipated works for Zones 3 to 7 are similar over the second half of 2023 - mostly focusing on utility diversion, site preparation and the commencement of viaduct pier construction.

With this circular, we look forward to seeing the completion of viaduct piers in Zones 1 & 2, followed by the viaduct span construction. These will give a sense of how the line will navigate the tight turn from Jurong Central Park out to Jalan Boon Lay and will no doubt be interesting to see as it progresses.
