30 October 2022 - An aerial view of the Tengah Plantation station. |
Tengah Plantation station under contract J108 has been progressing steadily since we found a good vantage point from which to view the station earlier this year in June. From this viewpoint, we have been able to document the station's piers going up from mere rebar to concrete structures that are now progressing to have the concourse level crossheads cast.
Thanks to a Mothership article on a young couple who purchased a Build-To-Order (BTO) flat in Tengah, we are able to jump back in time to end-2020 when the J108 site was relatively empty and construction works had yet to commence. The location of the future Tengah Plantation station is a small strip of grass between 2 BTO construction sites. Even the casting yard for contract J108 has yet to be built.

31 July 2022 - Piles for earth retention still visible at the station work site. |
Since finding our vantage point in the middle of the year, we've seen how the station has progressed from foundation and initial pier construction work. During the initial parts, several steel piles were seen in the ground to allow for pile foundation works to proceed upon which the piers are built.

Through the subsequent months, rebar was put in place and concrete poured to form the final piers that we see at the site today. With the main shaft cast, work could progress onto the next stage - the concourse level crossheads. It is from these crossheads that the concourse slab will be constructed - possibly from pre-cast I or T-beams that are much like assembling a bridge (similar to, for instance, the upcoming TPE-PIE bridge at Upper Changi).

30 October 2022 - A view of the station site in the foreground whilst neighbouring contract J102 is visible in the background. The Tengah junction is where the eastern & southern/western/main branches split. The eastern route through Tengah Plantation will rise & terminate at Tengah station on the upper level tracks. Some piers to support this configuration are visible in the background. |
With casting of the concourse level crossheads underway, it will only be a matter of time before the station structure becomes even more visible. To date, this is the station at the most advanced stage of construction. Do watch this space for further updates once they're available.
