Works at Gek Poh station have been progressing steadily since our last visit here almost half a year ago. Foundation pits can be seen dug for the installation of bored piles that will serve to support the station piers located in the road median. Further up north, the former Pioneer Primary School site can be seen cleared to allow a clear path towards Tawas station.

diversion.

The roadway has been pushed apart so that works can take place in the road median, where piers supporting the station will be constructed. The station itself will hang over the road with linkbridges providing access on either side. Tracks at this station will not diverge but remain in the centre with platforms on either side keeping trains as far away as possible from the HDB blocks.

The beginnings of several piers towards the north of the station are visible. Once the pile caps are completed, soil will be backfilled over and then the climb upwards can begin. In a few months the final structures of the piers will be visible allowing for the construction of the viaduct spans. According to a release by the contractor, viaduct construction is targeted for Quarter 4 of 2022. Given that this is typically the monsoon season, it remains to be seen if the weather will have any impact to this timeline. Any deviation, however, will not present an issue for timely completion of construction works.
