To conclude our Q3 update on the Jurong Region Line (JRL) for 2021, we visit Jurong East. Construction here is covered under 2 contracts - J110 and J120. Contract J110 is for the construction of Jurong East interchange station and modifications to integrate the new structure in with the existing complex. On the other hand, Contract J120 involves the construction of the Jurong East integrated transport hub (ITH), including JRL viaducts through the complex.

Contract J110 - JE05 - Jurong East
This contract was won by South Korean firm Daewoo and will add on a 4-level structure on the southern side of the existing Jurong East interchange station. The 4 levels consist of the street level, concourse level, lower platform and upper platform levels. The site of the first temporary Jurong East bus interchange is being utilized as the station construction site. Since the bus interchange moved across the street in December 2020, the site has been demolished leaving a small portion of the structure where the arrival berths used to be as a linkway between the existing MRT station and the J-Cube shopping centre.

Load testing for the piles seems to be ongoing, but apart from that there is little else to report at this location.

Contract J120 - Jurong East ITH
This contract was awarded to China Communications Construction Corporation, who is currently building the Boon Lay interchange station as well, in February 2021. Sited right next to contract J110, the stretch of JRL viaducts in this contract will connect to the contract J109 northern section linking up to cross over the existing East West Line tracks and access Toh Guan station.

At the moment there is a lot of soil investigation works going on at the site, which has yet to be cleared.

25 September 2021 - Site clearing has yet to begin

25 September 2021 - Several soil investigation rigs on site
