Pre-construction - Tawas

Lorong Tawas is currently a quiet lane surrounded by greenery just across the Pan Island Expressway from Jurong West town. Much of the surrounding area is a secondary forest. However, plans for the area involve developing the land into the Jurong Town Corporation's (JTC) Cleantech Park precinct under the Jurong Innovation District.

The area is conceived as a place for industry and learning to co-exist. Surbana Jurong, an architectural firm which was involved in the architectural & engineering design for the Jurong Region Line (JRL) contract J1003, which included Tawas station, will have its future global headquarters located in the vicinity.

En route to Tawas from Gek Poh station, the line will squeeze in between existing Housing & Development Board (HDB) apartment blocks and an existing primary school. Observations on the ground note that there is sufficient space for the line to clear both buildings without adversely affecting ground space. In view of noise concerns, it is likely that the elevated viaduct will feature an enclosure to minimise noise disturbance to residents and students. During the construction phase, both stakeholders may notice a decrease in space as machinery is used to construct the piers that form the viaduct.

  2. The location of the forested area in the 2nd photo that you took may be slightly off. It's actually not that close to Clean Tech Park, but further away.
