J105 - An update in Q1 2025

The two station sites under contract J105 towards the end of Q1 2025.

Through Q1 2025, works under contract J105 have plodded along at the Jurong West and Bahar Junction station sites. Key milestones under the Jurong Region Line (JRL) contract include the commencement of exit podium works at both stations, the commencement of escalator installation works at Bahar Junction station and continued progress on viaduct span construction. We'll take a closer look at the achievements made after the jump.

JS6 - Jurong West
Major milestones at the station over the past quarter include the continuation of interior fit out works, completion of viaduct beam spans in the vicinity of the station building & the commencement of exit podium construction.

13 March 2025 - An aerial view of the station in end-Q1 2025. Installation of the waterproofing
membrane layer can be see atop the western plant rooms at platform level.

25 January 2025 - An aerial view of the station in early-Q1 2025. The concrete roof atop the
western plant rooms is still bare concrete.

Interior fit out works
Some interior fit out works for the station have commenced, such as the installation of plumbing and utilities along the station's concourse level ceiling. Over the past quarter, there has not been any installation of the utility booms at the platform level nor escalators. The station is equipped with 4 escalator pits that connect the concourse and platform levels, although it remains to be seen how many sets will ultimately be installed during the initial operation of the station.

25 January 2025 - A view of the station's side profile, with both the concourse and platform levels
visible.

25 January 2025 - Lift shaft frames in view. Metal strands for hanging of utility ducts from the
ceiling can be seen.

25 January 2025 - Escalator pits flanking the set of stairs visible at concourse level.

25 January 2025 - Further escalator pits visible at the western half of the station. Also visible
are further metal stands for hanging of utility ducts from the ceiling.

25 January 2025 - An underside view of the station's roof structure. The utility boom at
platform level had not yet been installed.

levels visible.

13 March 2025 - A view of the lift shaft frames. A blue pipe can be seen since installed from the
metal strands for hanging utilities from the ceiling.

13 March 2025 - Escalator pits at the western end of the station. No escalators have been installed
as yet.

13 March 2025 - Room framing works underway underneath the eastern end's escalator & stairs.
Blue and red pipes/ducts are visible hanging from the metal strands.

13 March 2025 - Escalator pits still empty at the station's eastern half.

13 March 2025 - An underside view of the station's roof, with the utility services boom still not
installed as yet.

Viaduct beam construction
Viaduct span construction works continued to make progress through the quarter, seeing the viaduct beams between both stations completed as a continuous stretch. To the east of the station, the remaining gaps were further reduced to two sections - part of the spans connecting to the station's eastern edge and part of the span connecting to the movement & expansion joint at the contract boundary. Works were in progress at both gaps to commence launching of the remaining segments once the trestle structures were in place.

25 January 2025 - An aerial view of the station's western end, with viaduct segments launched
in place and now connecting the station building with the viaduct spans.

13 March 2025 - An aerial view of the station's western end, with the trestle structures since
removed.

25 January 2025 - Viaduct section to the east of the station building, with several gaps still
remaining to be closed.

Q1 2025.

13 March 2025 - The gaps in the viaduct beam spans since closed. A remaining section near
the movement & expansion joint pier at the contract boundary sees the trestle structure being
erected ahead of segment launching works.

13 March 2025 - A close up view of the viaduct beams and trestle structure being set up.

16 March 2025 - A view of the trestle beams being set up for viaduct segment launching works.

16 March 2025 - Another view of the trestle beam set up to launch the remaining viaduct segments.

Exit podium construction
Jurong West station will see three exits being constructed during the initial station's opening, with provisions for a fourth exit to be built in future, allowing connection to developments within the Jurong Innovation District. Of the three exits, one is to be located along the station's northern edge and two along the southern edge. Works for the construction of the exit podiums commenced this past quarter in earnest, with rebar for the base of the northern exit's podium visible.

16 March 2025 - A view of the rebar for the exit podium visible to the left of the site.

JS7 - Bahar Junction
Over at Bahar Junction station, things were messy. Or possibly exciting, depending on how you look at it. Traffic diversions were still in place with lots of falsework being used for viaduct and station construction works. Construction was taking place on several fronts - the main station building, the connecting viaducts of the Y-junction, the satellite station building and the connecting linkbridge between both station buildings.

25 January 2025 - An aerial view of the station site in early Q1.

Main station building
The main station building was the furthest along, being the easiest to construct. Straddling across eastbound carriageway of Jurong West Avenue 4, the station received its roof last year. Since then, works have been taking place inside the station building with the staircases constructed and escalator installation works beginning this past quarter. Viaduct beams at the station building's eastern end were also connected to the station building structure during the past quarter.

Work had commenced for the southern exit podium with piling works.

16 March 2025 - Viaducts at the station's eastern end were now connected to the main station
building.

Satellite station building
The satellite station building structure of the complex was a, well, more complex undertaking. Sitting above the road junction of Jurong West Avenue 4 with Jurong West Streets 64 a& 75, the structure had to employ extensive use of portal beams and precast segments to construct the station's concourse level. Works for the precast beams supporting this level were completed in 2024, with works to cast the concourse level slab spanning through the past quarter.

25 January 2025 - An aerial view of the works taking place on the precast beams for the
satellite station building's concourse level.

25 January 2025 - A view of the many structures under construction in the vicinity of the
road junction. Above are the partially completed viaduct spans of the Y-junction, while the
satellite station building's portal frames lie ahead.

25 January 2025 - Work on concourse level columns for the linkbridge that connects the
satellite and main station buildings together. The linkbridge will feature 2 levels to allow
commuters to transit between the two buildings.

25 January 2025 - Another pair of columns for the linkbridge with the connecting beam yet to be
cast.

Part of a semi-completed viaduct span is seen in the foreground.

25 January 2025 - Viaduct spans partially completed along the southern section of the
Y-junction towards Boon Lay and contract J106 interface. Also visible is part of the
satellite station building's portal frame structure.

1 March 2025 - An aerial view of the satellite station building's structure. Frames have been
deployed to allow working platforms to be suspended below. Casting works for the concourse
slab were underway at the southern end, with rebar visible between the precast beams. Also visible
for the first time was rebar for the columns along the length of the concourse slab.

1 March 2025 - Another view of the frames deployed at the top of the precast beams.

1 March 2025 - A view of the Y-junction viaducts and parts of the linkbridge structure. Casting
for the platform level beams of the linkbridge were underway. Parapet wall installation works
had also begun along the viaduct.

13 March 2025 - A view of the southern end of the satellite station building. Casting for the
concourse level columns was beginning.

While progress has been made on the Bahar Junction station's main station building, there still remains a fair amount of work for the satellite station building. It will be interesting to see how the remaining portions of the station complex shape up even as viaduct construction work continues to complete the remaining sections.
