J107 - Gek Poh update Q3 2023

28 September 2023 - A view of Gek Poh station seen from street level at end-Q3 2023.

Quarter 3 of the year has seen some milestones being achieved for the Gek Poh station and surrounding viaducts. These include the completion of casting of all the station pier's concourse level crosshead stubs, the installation of one prefabricated crosshead arm, completion of several viaduct spans and the commencement of construction of another portal pier's beam. Head on after the jump to find out more!

Station
Work at the beginning of the quarter was focused on completing the casting of the crosshead stubs for the concourse slab at the station. Bored piling work was also being done for the station's exits on either side before the work progressed to the installation of the crosshead arms, which would block access to the large machinery needed to perform such work.

In the middle of the quarter, work was completing on the casting of the crosshead stubs at the southern end of the station. At the other end, work was beginning on the installation of the support frames that would prop up the prefabricated crosshead arms. Following their installation, the prefabricated arm would need to undergo tensioning work so that the crosshead could support its own weight without having to rely on the frames.

By the end of Q3, the first arm had been installed, supported by the frame connected to the stub and another installed to act like a trestle structure. Casting of the final connecting beam between the two southern-most station pier columns was also underway.

Viaducts
Besides the station, work on the viaduct has been making significant progress as well. The most advanced is the section along Jurong West Street 82. Over the course of the past quarter, the spans for 2 of the piers had been completed. Work then started on the next pier's span, just immediately north of the Gek Poh station building.

To the south, work had begun on the construction of the remaining piers. Construction of the portal beam for the second of three portal piers had commenced as well, while sheet piles were installed to allow for the excavation to expose the bored piles for a second column.
