Amidst all the rain at the end of the year, we bring you the November Jurong Region Line (JRL) snapshot. With work going on round the clock, the various components and structures of the line inch closer to completion. That said, there still is a lot of work to be done as you'll see in this post. More pictures & details after the jump.
Phase 1
This phase is getting there. Sorta? Station buildings are rising, viaducts are forming and then there are some... gaps. Overall, things are progressing. But a lot of catch up work is needed to fill in the missing pieces. More on that in a bit.
Tengah depot (Contract J101)
In a nutshell: With the J151 trains expected to begin arriving from Q1 2025, will the depot facilities be ready in time to receive the trains? Chances are, the depot will not. It is likely that the trains will first head to the Singapore Rail Testing Centre (SRTC) in Tuas for testing locally while work continues to speed up the works at the depot. There has been some noticeable progress for sure. The admin building, located near the depot access gate, has reached level 4. Further back, part of the rolling stock workshop has received its roof, which will double up as bus parking lots. To the left of the rolling stock workshop, more portions of the depot test track can be seen installed as well.

Choa Chu Kang (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: Through the month the various viaduct piers south of the station have taken shape, with some beginning the segmental box girder launching. In this section, only one set of piers remains to be cast. At the northern end, near Choa Chu Kang Loop, viaduct segments have also begun launching works. At the station itself, several stores have since vacated the interim shops area, leaving the food stalls as one of the sole surviving shops occupying the last unit in the row. With the first phase of alteration works completed at the existing North-South Line station, shop units here have begun to be displayed on Stellar Lifestyle's website - the leasing arm of SMRT. It will be a matter of time before these units are eventually leased out. The works at the eastern side of the station fronting Lot One have seen the toilets relocated from the interim shop block here as well.

Choa Chu Kang West (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: Works at the station along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 have begun on the plant room facilities on either end at platform level. Other components such as the lift shafts have also been installed. At most other stations thus far, the installation of lift shafts has been followed by roof frame installation. On either side of the station, viaduct construction works continue. Recently, launch gantry Mulan completed its work having launched segments for a total of 81 spans. The gantry will backtrack into Tengah where it will be disassembled for use at its next project. Over on the other side of the station, to the east, viaduct construction was ongoing at the junction with Choa Chu Kang Way. Here, the viaduct had almost formed a complete span across the roadway with approximately 1 segment left to be hoisted into place.

Hong Kah (Contract J103)
In a nutshell: All 7 pairs of V-columns that will support the barrel vaulted roof of the station have been installed and the majority of the roof frame fixed in place. Only small sections at the ends of the roof remain to be completed. With the frame covering the majority of the station's platforms, additional layers are being added to the roof for weather protection and insulation. Viaducts to the south of the station were in the midst of being built, with several viaduct piers awaiting the construction of viaduct spans atop.

Reception tracks & Viaducts between JS4 and JS5 stations (Contract J103)
In a nutshell: Steady progress has been observed for the western reception tracks connecting the depot with Corporation station. On the other hand, the eastern reception tracks still feature large gaps where viaduct piers still need to be constructed. The main line viaduct between Hong Kah (JS4) and Corporation (JS5) stations was also not faring much better. Viaduct segment launching recently began in the median of the Pan Island Expressway as the line bisects the roadway. It is likely that this section will still require some time to complete and may become a bottleneck in the line's successful completion.

Phase 2
The second phase of the line is hot on the heels of the first phase of the line with several milestones being accomplished this month. These include the progress of roof frame installation at the first phase 2 station, the assembly of the last concourse level crosshead formwork for one of the stations and the commencement of viaduct pier crossheads at the end of the line. More details in the section below.
JE1 - Tengah Plantation (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: Viaduct construction works have hit a pause recently while the station is fit out with additional load bearing supports to bear the weight of launch gantry Magnificent Mammoth as it will eventually crawl through the station before continuing its journey on the western side of the station. Near the station building, sections of the roof frame have been delivered to the site, awaiting installation once the gantry has launched the remaining spans connecting the viaduct to the station on its eastern station.

JE6 - Jurong Town Hall (Contract J109)
In a
nutshell: Progress was making headway over at Jurong Town Hall station, with the northern part of the station working on the platform level of the 3 storey station. The Tengah-bound viaduct had completed viaduct spans connecting to the station at this end too. Towards the end of the month, the launch gantry had made a switch back to begin launching viaduct segments on the Pandan Reservoir-bound trackway too. To the south of the station, falsework was being installed ahead of the casting of viaduct pier crossheads. Closer to Jurong East station, work was ongoing for the foundations of several viaduct piers while at least one pair was focused on the beginning of pier column construction.

JE7 - Pandan Reservoir (Contract J109)
In a
nutshell: The majority of the station building's construction had reached the mezzanine level of the 4 storey station. Several columns extending up to the concourse level could also be seen. Casting work had also begun for the viaduct pier crossheads near the end of the line, including that apparently featuring a turnout towards the reservoir, presumably for some future purpose. There were still pockets of sections where construction of the viaduct piers was still focused on the pier foundations as bored piling works were still under way.

Phase 3 (South)
The southern section of phase 3 might be the slowest progressing of all sections of the line. That said, works are not stagnating or at a standstill, as evidenced by the station and viaduct structures slowly taking shape with each passing month. It just so happens, that when compared to other sections, this appears to be the slowest moving.
JS9 - Enterprise (Contract
J111)
In a nutshell: The station building structure is beginning to take shape with about 60% of the concourse slab cast. This station in particular, features a smaller footprint compared to some of the other JRL stations. While the station features 3 exits, connections between the concourse and platform levels will only see a single pair of escalators, a single set of staircase and a pair of lifts being catered for. This is in contrast to other stations which may see 3 or 4 escalators being built from the onset. Elsewhere, viaduct construction works were progressing, especially near the contract boundary with contract J106. The method of construction used for the Jurong River crossing is not often seen in elevated rail construction projects locally as of late - the balanced cantilevered method employing the use of travelling forms. This is essentially a hybrid of the cast in-situ and balanced cantilevered forms of construction that takes a longer time to complete than using precast segmental box girders.

- Tukang (Contract J111)
In a nutshell: Tukang station has seen marginal progress since our last visit to the site, with scaffolding and formwork set up for the casting of the concourse level crossheads. Near the contract boundary, a lone viaduct pier was working its way towards crosshead construction. This pier has likely made headway as it is probably a movement & expansion joint pier, which would need to be handed over to southern neighbour contract J112 for viaduct span construction works.

- Jurong Hill (Contract J112)
In a nutshell: The station building still consisted of 3 station piers in the road median of Jurong Pier Road. Apart from the three piers at the station site, there is not a lot of other visible structures as yet. However, across the Ayer Rajah Expressway, one of the two viaduct piers had completed crosshead casting works. A hanger beam could be seen installed atop of the crosshead, indicating that the start of viaduct segment launching works is imminent for the contract. A second pier further behind was undergoing crosshead casting works.

- Jurong Pier (Contract J112)
In a nutshell: Works along this section of the contract were mainly focused on the station building, with no viaduct pier works seen as yet. There remains a long way to go as no bored piling works for the viaduct sections have commenced to date. Nonetheless, the station building has seen some progress with the low wall being cast along the station's western edge. This will ultimately form the concourse level which will sit slightly raised above ground level.

Phase 3 (North)
The final section of phase 3 has seen quite some progress since our last visit. More viaduct columns have begun popping up, station building construction has progressed with more columns being cast and viaduct pier crossheads were being unveiled. We wrap up this month's snapshot with the last few stations on the line.
JW3 - Nanyang Gateway (Contract J113)
In a nutshell: Works have begun on the station's concourse level columns, with casting underway for a mix of square-shaped and cylindrical-shaped columns. These will aid in supporting the platform level above. Several more viaduct piers, especially those in the vicinity of the School of Design, Art & Media, had begun sporting completed crossheads with segment launching commencing.

Most of the station building itself still consisted of rebar with the structure of the station yet to be cast. Immediately north of the station building, columns supporting the embankment upon which a crossover will be located had been further lengthened.
