Just like that we've slid into May. We tried our best this month but somehow with our schedules, were not able to cover the Jurong Region Line (JRL) in its entirety. Nonetheless, we're here to give you the usual low down on the sites that we did visit for April. Take a look at all the details after the jump.
Phase 1
This phase is a mixed bag with some contracts having substantial sections of viaducts completed and others not. One station has parts of its roof truss canopy up while most do not. And then there are sections completely missing viaduct piers. So much range for this first section due to see revenue operation in a quick three years time.
Tengah depot (Contract J101)
In a nutshell: Works appear to be concentrated on getting the workshops ready with the first rails being laid near this section. This makes sense given that trains can be stabled within the workshops but cannot be maintained in the stabling sheds, although the latter appears to have progressed much quicker than the workshops. Given the progress seen on site, it is unlikely that the J151 trains will be coming over to Tengah so soon. Our best bet for the trains' arrival here will be next year, allowing contractor China Railway Bureau 11 some time to get the important facilities ready.

JS1 -
Choa Chu Kang (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: The main station building is coming along with the permanent structures at the platform and trackbed level becoming visible. Parts of the railing for the existing North-South Line (NSL) viaduct has been removed to make way for the new platform's construction. Modification works are progressing at the existing ticket hall and at exit A with new tiling and ceiling panels being installed in the existing station areas. The fareline will be drastically changed and we may cover this in greater detail in an upcoming post, time permitting. Further along, viaduct span construction has been ongoing for the section where the JRL runs parallel to the NSL and Bukit Panjang LRT. Two spans have since been completed.

JS2 -
Choa Chu Kang West (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: Concourse slab works have been largely completed with the concourse columns mostly cast. At the eastern end of the station, work is progressing to the casting of the platform beams which will support the next level upwards. Viaduct construction to the east is also progressing with crossheads mostly constructed for the viaduct piers. 2 of the 4 portal piers have had construction of the portal beam started with the remaining 2 to follow sequentially. On the western side of the station, several viaduct pier columns stand ready for viaduct span construction to proceed.

JS2A
- Forest Hill (Contract J102, provisional future station)
In a nutshell: There is not much change at the location of the future station as launch gantry Mulan has shifted to work on the section between the station and Tengah, further west. However, progress has been significant at the special crossing of the Brickland Road junction with the balanced cantilevered method being used. The first section constructed now fully spans the junction with the second span to follow soon.

JS3 -
Tengah (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: Launch gantry Gaia has been consistently working on the viaducts south of Tengah station. There does not appear to be much change to Tengah station, with the parapet walls of the upper platform level visible. Parapet wall construction on the completed sections of viaducts has progressed along the reception track from Hong Kah station to the upper platform of Tengah as well as the mainline towards Hong Kah and Tengah Plantation stations.

JS4 -
Hong Kah (Contract J103)
In a nutshell: Several more viaduct piers are under construction to the west of the station. The station itself has seen the concourse level columns progress with the majority of these cast. Scaffolding surrounds the columns towards the western end as preparation begins for the casting of the platform level beams that will support the next level up.

JS5 -
Corporation (Contract J103)
In a nutshell: Corporation station has made the most progress of any station recently, with the first roof frame being lifted into place and fixed in position. The roof frame truss is supported by V-columns supported along the side of the trackbed. Other JRL stations will use a similar design with a barrel vaulted roof truss system being common across almost all JRL stations, exception perhaps Jurong East. However the placement of the supporting columns differs from station to station. Viaduct construction west of the station is progressing with lifting frames performing the hard work of lifting and securing the segments to the viaduct piers.

JS6 -
Jurong West (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: Jurong West station has seen some progress with casting of the platform level beams underway. Work has also begun on piling for the station's exits. Viaduct construction works continue to bridge the gap between the completed section and remaining sections that will connect to the station building. Towards neighbouring Bahar Junction station, casting of the portal beam on the side of the junction closer to the Jurong West station was underway. The truss installed near the junction has seen the first few viaduct segments installed atop.

JS7 -
Bahar Junction (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: The satellite station has begun launching the concourse level precast segments, starting on the Jurong West Street 75 section first. Viaduct piers for the Jurong Pier-bound curve have started to take shape. Prior to the road diversion enacted to construct the main station, the foundations of the pier columns were constructed and then covered over. Work now continues with the construction of the actual columns. Over at the main station building, work has progressed to the casting of the platform beams.

JS8 -
Boon Lay (Contract J106)
In a nutshell: Part of the works for Boon Lay station will see the repositioning of the exit faregate line towards the bus interchange at Jurong Point. Floor markings have been recently observed indicating the future location of the relocated faregates. Elsewhere, work continues on filling in the missing gaps in the viaduct span construction where the movement expansion joints will be located.

JW1 -
Gek Poh (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: All 10 pairs of concourse level arms have been installed at Gek Poh station. When the last 2 pairs have the rebar and concrete casting completed, precast I-beams can be installed to form the entire concourse slab. Over at the northern end, approximately 3 pier columns have been cast at the concourse level. The northern-most pier was also having its crosshead being cast, allowing the viaduct span to connect to the station building. South of the station, the last of the portal piers was gearing up for casting of the portal beam.

JW2 -
Tawas (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: The platform level supports have been taking shape with approximately 3 to 4 pier columns remaining to be cast. From here, the crossheads with arms supporting the platform level will be cast atop. Across the expressway to the south, work has begun on the construction of the special crossing.

Phase 2
Phase 2 has a little more time to get ready for revenue service than phase 1 does. Contract J108 though, is off to good progress with large tracts of viaducts constructed and two of the stations progressing beyond the concourse slab level.
JE1 - Tengah Plantation (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: Casting works at the station have seen the platform beams cast while portions of the trackbed and platform begin to take shape. There are some substantial portions of viaduct that remain to be constructed but the majority of these should be completed within the year.

JE2 - Tengah Park (Contract J108)
In a
nutshell: Piling works have begun for the station exit to be located across Bukit Batok Road, which will connect to the station via a linkbridge. The piling works will serve to provide support for the bridge in the road median. Works at the station itself are focused on completing the concourse level columns while simultaneously commencing on the construction of the platform beams that will support the trackbeds and platform level above. To the north of the station, a trestle structure has been assembled to begin launching the final span of viaduct that will connect directly with the station building on the Pandan Reservoir-bound track.
