The future infill station and the approach tracks to Tengah station under contract J102 as seen in end-Q2. |
Last week we covered the first update for contract J102 over the second quarter of the year. This week, we're continuing our update with the remaining 2 stations under the contract - the future infill station just inside Tengah that we're calling Forest Hill and Tengah station, located at what will become the future town centre. As we learnt last week, a lot has happened within contract J102 over the past quarter. Works have been progressing at a frenzied pace, with viaducts within Tengah taking shape - more so than those within Choa Chu Kang. The station buildings are also substantially completed to the platform levels, although Forest Hill's structure is a very basic frame. In this update, we take a closer look at the goings-on around the two station locations.
JS2A - Forest Hill (provisional future station)
The future infill station has seen launch gantry Mulan make a re-appearance once again. Having completed work on the viaduct spans towards Tengah station, the gantry back-tracked towards Choa Chu Kang to resume viaduct segment launching eastwards.

To reach Choa Chu Kang from Tengah, the line crosses over Brickland Road through a special span crossing. Immediately after the road junction is a 3-cell box culvert that allows a canal to run beneath Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3. As a result, consultants avoided placing a viaduct pier at this location, necessitating an extended span over the junction instead. Segment launching works were carried out over the quarter, starting from the Tengah side first. Once launching works from the supporting pier on that end were completed, the equipment was relocated to the Choa Chu Kang side before works resumed.

JS3 - Tengah
Tengah station is one of the most enigmatic elevated stations along the line, being hidden away from view by dense vegetation within the new town. Nonetheless, from what we have seen, launch gantry Gaia has been progressing towards the station at the upper track level. The gantry will eventually cross through the station and continue with works on the tail tracks for the eastern Jurong Region Line (JRL) route and eventually complete its work once the last few spans there have been completed.

Completed sections of viaduct in Tengah were also proceeding with parapet and cable rack installation works. These works involve the hoisting of precast sections of wall to be installed along the edge of the viaduct segments. They are eventually cast in place where the rebar from the precast segment meets the rebar of the viaduct segment edge. Cable racks are installed along the completed parapet walls to allow the laying of cables once rails are installed to facilitate signaling and other communication and power needs.

Work within Tengah has progressed significantly, with stretches of viaduct now sporting parapet walls and cable racks installed. It is likely that the works were planned with these sections to be completed as early as possible to allow for handover to the trackworks contractor to begin laying of rails from the temporary staging area (TSA) near Hong Kah station. We look forward to the commencement of the next stage of works once the viaduct spans are completed further north towards Tengah station. With the progress seen thus far, the viaducts should be handed over to contract J150 by Q4 to begin rail installation works.
