J110 - A new bus interchange

29 November 2020 - A view of the first temporary Jurong East bus interchange next to Jurong East MRT station.

After nearly 9 years in operation, the first temporary bus interchange at Jurong East will be relocated. To our knowledge, this is the first time where a second temporary facility has been constructed for use. Come 6th December 2020, operations will commence at the new facility located opposite the existing interchange. This will be the second bus interchange to shift in order to facilitate construction works for the Jurong Region Line (JRL).

29 November 2020 - A sign indicating an familiarization open house
for commuters to learn how to navigate to the second temporary interchange.

As operations shift to the new interchange, operator Tower Transit had opened up the new facility for commuters to get a sneak peak and familiarize themselves with the new route to the interchange. It consists of a pedestrian overhead bridge (POB) that links directly to the interchange from the MRT station concourse level.

29 November 2020 - View of the entrance to the POB at the MRT station.

On exiting the station through exit B, commuters will find a new link has opened up along the existing POB towards Venture Avenue. Direction signs indicate that this new link brings you to the bus interchange and Jurong Town Corporation Summit building as well.

29 November 2020 - Rest points with benches are available along the POB.

29 November 2020 - An undulating walk which can be long for the infirm
or the elderly.

The new POB is lined with benches for the weary to take a break as the link can be a bit long and undulating. The infirm or those who require short breaks to recuperate will be able to use these benches to break up the journey a little. A quick time test indicates that it takes approximately 3 to 5 minutes to reach the new interchange facility from the MRT station at a brisk walking pace.

29 November 2020 - Boarding berth island on the left, arrival berths on the right at the new interchange.
29 November 2020 - POB conveniently services both boarding berth island and arrival berths. Turn left to get to the boarding berths. POB is also equipped with 2 elevators at the bus interchange.

The new interchange is neatly split into 2 distinct areas. The arrival berths have their own section separate from the boarding berth island. As such, commuters wishing to access the boarding berths will need to walk a bit further than those arriving to the interchange. With the moving of the bus interchange, work can get underway to clear the site for other preparatory works such as utility diversion and soil investigation.
