Since our last update of Contract J102, there has been some progress made. Most visible is the progress around Choa Chu Kang station for site preparation. Scaffolding has been going up around the vacated Block 303 along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4. A few fabric noise barriers have been installed ahead of the demoltion works.

According to circulars placed on the hoarding explaining the works by the main contractor, the demolition works are targeted for late-October or early-November. As of mid-November, the works had not quite progressed to demolition stage yet - with a portion of the back of the block still not covered by scaffolding. Nonetheless, progress has been significant since one month back in mid-October where there was no sign of scaffolding at all.

According to project contractor, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (STEC), a portion of the pavement along Choa Chu Kang Loop will be closed through the duration of demolition works till January 2021. Pedestrians will have to use the pavement on the opposite side of the roadway to access Block 301 which houses a coffee shop and other sundry shops.

Besides demolition work, the shifting of a hard court along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 has also begun. Formerly housing a basketball court, it will be relocated closer to the housing estate's internal road to make way for viaduct construction closer to the existing North South Line trackway.

Soil investigation works are also on-going to further analyze soil composition where the viaduct piers will stand. This will help the contractor to construct the appropriate foundation for the pile caps to sit on. Understanding the soil composition will enable the contractor to select the appropriate equipment and construction techniques.

After leaving Choa Chu Kang station, pre-construction works continue along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3. Several construction barriers could be seen at various spots along the roadway, demarcating construction or storage areas.

We were however unable to find any circulars posted at the blocks along the roadway - this is indicative of the works not being as advanced as that at Choa Chu Kang interchange. The roadway was also devoid of Soil Investigation works or trial trenching works for the moment.

Towards the western end of Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 were a few indicators of soil investigation works in the form of temporary shelters and construction barricades. Apart from this though, there is not much indication of other works going on.
