J105 - Bahar Junction update Q1/Q2 2023

Avenues 2 & 4 and Streets 64 & 75.

Today we cover the progress made at Bahar Junction station site over Q1 & the early part of Q2 of 2023. There are some noticeable differences since our last visit here at the end of 2022 with more station piers coming up along Jurong West Avenue 2. With the unique design of the station serving trackways heading in three different bounds, the site also stretches to Jurong West Streets 64 and 75, the former having less visible progress than the latter.

5 February 2023
Compared to end 2022, the main progress had been the appearance of station piers along Jurong West Avenue 2. Previously, no piers were cast yet but there were now two near the eastern end of the station that had been cast. A few others were still having their foundations constructed.

Works at the junction between Avenues 2 & 4 and Streets 65 & 75 were underway with auger machines beginning drilling for the pier foundations. Along Street 75, the pier caps for several piers had been completed and construction would be progressing upwards.

present on all three streets that the station will sit upon.

are only 2 station piers cast along Avenue 2.

Progress roughly 2 weeks later had seen the scaffolding creeping upwards to facilitate the construction of a viaduct pier at the junction of Jurong West Avenue 2 with Jalan Bahar & Jalan Boon Lay.

12 March 2023
The following month, the scaffolding for the viaduct pier at the junction with Jalan Bahar & Jalan Boon Lay had progressed upwards and was shrouded in netting. One of the portal piers along Jurong West Street 75 opposite the Westwood Primary School had also emerged further up from the mere base that was present the previous month while another pier near the Bahar Junction station was also undergoing rebar installation works ahead of concrete casting.

A week later and several more station piers along Jurong West Avenue 2 had been cast in addition to the scaffolding for the viaduct pier at the junction growing taller. The previous week there were 2 sections of construction netting visible but there were now 3.

8 April 2023
As of early Q2 of 2023, the auger machine on Jurong West Street 64 has moved further south, closer to the contract boundary with J106. It is likely that piers along this stretch will soon emerge. Along Jurong West Avenue 2, a total of 6 station piers had been cast with another to follow along shortly. The base of another few piers were also seen and will likely join the rest shortly. Additionally, the auger machine formerly used to construct the foundations had also shifted to the north of the eastbound lanes of the roadway to begin construction of piers on that side of the road. It is likely that the Choa Chu Kang bound trackway will be located here while the Jurong Pier bound trackway is located roughly around the road median.

Along Jurong West Street 75, viaduct piers remained under construction. The portal pier had reached the height of the flared crown, upon which the horizontal portal beam will extend from. Another pier just north of the station site now also had reached full rebar installation height and would likely be cast shortly.

16 April 2023
The major difference approximately a week later was that the viaduct pier at the junction of Jurong West Avenue 2 with Jalan Bahar & Jalan Boon Lay had now been cast and the scaffolding surrounding the pier was since removed.

16 April 2023 - Viaduct pier at the junction of Avenue 2 with Jalan Bahar &
Jalan Boon Lay completely cast.
