Contract awards - J109, J152, J155 & J160

On Friday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced the award of 4 contracts for the Jurong Region Line (JRL). The first contract awarded was for J109 which will include the construction of Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall and Pandan Reservoir stations along with associated viaducts and commuter facilities. This contract has been awarded to the joint venture of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co Ltd - Yongnam Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd. Daewoo is currently constructing the Stevens station on the Thomson-East Coast Line while Yongnam has been a key supplier of struts used in the construction of several underground MRT stations.

Toh Guan station will sit atop Jurong East Central, next to the existing North South Line tracks between Bukit Batok and Jurong East stations. The station will feature 2 levels - the concourse and platform - and 2 entrances on either side of Jurong East Central. We understand that in order to minimize disruptions along this key roadway, options such as the use of prefabricated elements is being considered for this station in place of the cast in-situ traditional methods of construction.

Jurong Town Hall station is located across the road from the International Business Park (IBP) and right next to the Jurong Lake District. The station features 3 levels and will be linked via a bridge across Jurong Town Hall Road to the IBP with 2 entrances there. The street level will feature entrances to the station on both the northern and southern ends.

The last station on this contract is Pandan Reservoir, the southern terminus of the JRL (East) route till the West Coast station is announced together with the Cross Island Line phase 2. Pandan Reservoir station will feature 4 levels and include a linkbridge acrosss Jurong Town Hall Road to connect with a single entrance there. Other entrances are located at street level at both the northern and southern ends of the station.

Summary of JRL contracts to date
Along with the award of contract J109, LTA has also awarded several other contracts:

  • J152 - For the installation of platform screen gates and provision of the signalling system - Awarded to a consortium of Siemens Mobility Pte Ltd - Siemens Rail Automation S.A.U.
  • J155 - For the provision of an Integrated Supervisory Control System - Awarded to ST Engineering Electronics Ltd
  • J160 - For the provision of JRL Communications system - Also awarded to ST Engineering Electronics Ltd
