Contract update - J105 Bahar Junction

02 July 2020 - Site conditions at the location of the future Bahar Junction station

The contract for construction of Bahar Junction station, J105, was awarded to China Railway No 11 Bureau in December 2019. Since then, the contractor has been gearing up to commence construction of the unique 3-direction station and transfer facility for the Jurong Region Line (JRL).

Preparatory works have been underway with the advanced works contractor performing utility diversions for the area. A significant number of worksites have popped up along Jurong West Avenue 2 in order to divert sewer pipes and construct entirely new replacement pipe lines.

Following utility diversion works, and representing another step close to commencement of proper station construction, is the start of trial trenching works in the vicinity. As seen at some nearby Housing & Development Board (HDB) flats, circulars have been placed up informing residents of the upcoming works near their block.

Trial trenches are exploratory works undertaken to detect any utilities that may be buried in the construction site - such as telephone wires, electrical supply lines, internet lines or other sewer related pipelines. The contractor would need to be aware of these in order to prevent disruption to these lines while excavating or to have these utilities diverted around the construction site to ensure continuity of services. Three sites were identified in the circular seen and work was ongoing at 2 of the sites.

Trial trenching works at the identified sites are expecting to complete by end-July. Following this some further diversion works may be expected and a pre-construction survey of the nearby HDB flats will be undertaken as seen at J105's Jurong West station, similar to that being performed at J106's Boon Lay station.
