2024 is the halfway mark in construction for the Jurong Region Line (JRL)'s first phase. Works across the various stations reached significant milestones with several stations now working on the metal roof frames. Discover the progress made through mid-September after the jump.

Phase 1
Naturally being part of the first phase means that you make the most progress. This can be seen through the various stations along this phase having roofing and platform plant room works commence. Despite all this awesome progress though, there are still some sections where viaduct progress requires a fair bit of catch up work.

Tengah depot (Contract J101)
In a nutshell: There is progress overall, with several new tower cranes assembled at the site of the multi-storey bus park facility recently. Along the reception track ramp, parapet wall installation has begun. Over at the workshop facility, longitudinal beams have begun installation as well. This will serve as additional bus parking lots at the roof level. Track installation works continue through the limited areas where such works can proceed.

JS1 - Choa Chu Kang (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: The new station building has seen portions of the new North-South Line (NSL) platform cast along the centre section. Plant rooms at the ends of the platform were also being constructed. The biggest changes seen within the existing station include the relocation of the fare line towards Exits A and B along with the shut down of the former up-riding escalator. The new concourse-to-platform link has opened on the northern end of the station allowing station modification works to proceed to phase 2.

JS2A - Forest Hill (Contract J102, provisional future station)
In a nutshell: Parapet wall installation is completed for a continuous stretch from the station's shell structure up to where the separate viaduct box structures meet. Launch gantry Mulan had successfully crossed over Brickland Road and had begun viaduct span construction along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 towards Sunshine Place shopping centre. As of the middle of the month, three spans had been completed since the gantry made the move into Choa Chu Kang town.

JS7 - Bahar Junction (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: Roof frame installation had begun at the station recently with one pair of Y-columns installed at the main station building. A second pair sat at street level with additional components being welded to the structure before lifting up into position. The two lift frames were installed at the main station building as well. Protective structures were installed underneath the satellite station building, allowing work to proceed above the diverted roadways below the station. Segmental box launching was also taking place for the various viaduct spans around the junction.

JS8 - Boon Lay (Contract J106)
In a nutshell: A slightly taller station requires slightly more time to achieve the same amount of progress as her slightly shorter stations that require slightly shorter amounts of time for similar degrees of completion. Being four stories tall, works are racing at Boon Lay to bridge the two sections of the station over the existing East-West Line (EWL) tracks. Not quite there, but probably soon. Over at the existing EWL station, modification works were underway although not quite in full swing as yet. Works to push the exit staircase further out seem to have come along while construction for a new replacement ramp had also begun.

JW1 - Gek Poh (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: Most of the beam installation works at the station had completed and casting of the final in-situ beams was underway. These beams sit on the outer-most end of the station's concourse slab. At the northern end of the station, installation of the first precast beams had begun for the trackbed within the station building. Viaduct span construction works progressed south of the station.

Phase 2
Although this section has more time to complete works than stations under phase 1, there are always cases of over-achievers trying to show off. At least one of the stations along this section has begun installation of the metal frame that will eventually support the roof over the station's platform. Elsewhere, station buildings are in various stages of construction stretching from the street level up to the platform levels.

JE1 - Tengah Plantation (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: Viaduct span construction has progressed very close to the station building. It appears that progress has been slightly stunted pending the crossing of the launch gantry through the station with the trackbeds fully cast at platform level. Several spans of viaduct will need to be completed once the gantry traverses through the station.

JE2 - Tengah Park (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: Our show off station - by mid-month, approximately 4 frames that will eventually support the station's roof had been installed at concourse level. The design at this station calls for a frame system that starts at the concourse and is anchored to the station's support piers. Viaduct construction on either side of the station was left with approximately 1 span per bound to join up with the station building, allowing a continuous stretch of viaduct through which the contractor could move to parapet wall installation and subsequent works.

JE3 - Bukit Batok West (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: The station was the slowest in progress along this contract in particular. Nonetheless, progress was made with all the station's piers finally moving beyond foundation level. Part of the station's concourse level had already been cast as well with the station pier columns at concourse level following suit. To the west of the station, launch gantry Rock Steady was disassembled and transported across Bukit Batok Road for reassembly next to the station building.

JE4 - Toh Guan (Contract J109)
In a nutshell: Approximately half of the station's concourse level crossheads had been cast. The completion of crosshead casting would allow works to move onto the next stage of construction where beams are to be installed and allow traffic below to flow uninterrupted. Viaduct pier construction south of the station was continuing while piers north of the station had been completed to crown level.

Tracks through Jurong East Integrated Transport Hub (Contract J120)
In a nutshell: More sections of the viaduct spans had formwork assembled ahead of casting as the viaduct moved closer towards the Jurong Hub building structure. Due to the stacked nature of the line at Jurong East station, interesting looking piers could be seen near the interchange station.

JE5 - Jurong East (Contract J110)
In a nutshell: With the concourse level mostly cast, work had since moved onto the lower platform level. Rebar installation was proceeding at a very quick pace with several key portions of the station - such as trackbeds - becoming clearer as installation work progressed. Protective netting has begun going up along the westbound EWL track as the station grows taller.

JE7 - Pandan Reservoir (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: Most of the station had begun construction of the mezzanine level. Similar to Boon Lay station, a slightly taller station requires slightly more time to achieve similar rates of construction progress as its neighbours. Several of the viaduct piers also began having the pier crowns cast.

Phase 3 (South)
The last phase of the line is not to be outdone either, with noticeable progress at the southern section. Several new viaduct piers could be seen along with other station piers. Segment launching was well underway for certain sections too.

JS9 - Enterprise (Contract J111)
In a nutshell: Concourse level construction had begun from the centre of the station as most of the station pier columns were completed. To the north of the station, several viaduct segments had been lifted into place by the hanger beams and were ready to transition to the use of lifting frames.

Phase 3 (North)
The northern section of the phase has also made significant progress with most of the station structures now visible. Sections of the viaduct spans were also completed, although there were still sections where viaduct piers were missing.

JW3 - Nanyang Gateway (Contract J113)
In a nutshell: Most of the station's portal pier columns were completed, with the concourse level beams also installed in the station's centre portion. On either end, viaduct span construction had made decent headway with several stretches of viaduct spans completed. A few piers here and there remain to be constructed owing to road diversions creating sufficient space for the construction of the pier foundations and columns.
