August has been a busy month for the Jurong Region Line (JRL) with several milestones being achieved. Contract J102 saw the handover of completed viaduct spans to trackworks contractor under contract J150 and contract J109 saw the lifting of the launch gantry for viaduct construction at Jurong Town Hall's station site. In addition, roof frame installation works were ongoing at Hong Kah (JS4), Corporation (JS5) and Jurong West (JS6) stations. More details on the progress made at the various sites after the jump.

Phase 1
Decent headway has been made over at the first phase of the line with the pedal still pressed to the metal. With basic structures due to attain completion by 2025, the various contractors and project teams were pressing ahead to meet the target deadlines. Significant completion could be seen at several stations, especially those with roofing works started. At present, no single contract has yet achieved completion of all viaduct spans, although the closest for this would be contract J106.

Tengah depot (Contract J101)
In a nutshell: Ballast (the stones that support the sleepers & tracks) could now be seen making its way towards the depot entry ramp. The admin building was casting the second level while work continued on at the workshops. The western side of the stabling sheds was the most advanced, with work progressing eastwards to catch up. Trackworks here were also well underway, with the rails laid clearly visible at the stabling shed area.

In a nutshell: Casting of the shared platform between the North-South Line (NSL) & Jurong Region Line (JRL)'s plant rooms was ongoing. Part of the roof for the JRL island platform was also going up at the station's southern end. Viaduct segment launching began at the northern end of the over run tracks while some of the piers on the line's southern approach to the station completed casting.

In a nutshell: Station works continued to advance, with the trackbeds now clearly visible. Work was ongoing on the creation of the underplatform level, with platform level works due to commence soon. Viaduct segment launching works were in full swing along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3, with several spans completed near the junction with Choa Chu Kang Way. Three of the portal piers had now been fully cast, with works underway for the installation of rebar for the fourth.

JS2A - Forest Hill (Contract J102, provisional future station)
In a nutshell: Launch gantry Mulan was left with one remaining span to complete before being disassembled - it is unlikely that the gantry will be used along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 from observing viaduct span construction taking place there currently. At the infill station site, parapet wall installation works were ongoing.

JS3 - Tengah (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: Unfortunately, due to the station's remote location obscured by the tree canopies, we are unable to tell if there are any differences compared to the months prior. It does seem that there are a lot more cranes in the vicinity of the station are though. Launch gantry Gaia also appears to have transited through the station to construct the remaining sections of the overrun viaduct for the eastern route to Pandan Reservoir north of the station. Near the Tengah Junction area, works were in the process of being readied for handover to the contract J150 trackworks contractor with the installation of cable racks & troughs on the parapet walls installed and first stage of concrete applied. The handover took place near the middle of the month.

Reception tracks & Viaducts between JS4 and JS5 (Contract J103)
In a nutshell: Pier construction was still ongoing for sections of the mainline track while viaduct span construction was in various stages of completion for the western reception tracks. There was no observable progress on the eastern reception track section. Road surfacing work was underway below the section near Corporation station, in anticipation of a road diversion for the westbound carriageway of Jurong West Avenue 2.

JS6 - Jurong West (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: Roof frame installation works were approximately half way through, with 4 of the 6 supporting columns and accompanying trusses installed. This is rather quick progress, given that approximately a month ago there were no sections of the roof frame installed yet. Parapet wall installation works had commenced on the viaduct sections to the west of the station, while casting work was underway for the portal pier to the east of the station building.

JS8 - Boon Lay (Contract J106)
In a nutshell: Both halves of the JRL station were progressing at the platform level, while the section in between the existing EWL tracks was also starting to come up. It is only a matter of time before the structure fully encloses the EWL tracks beneath the concourse level of the JRL station. Viaduct construction was also progressing, with the missing spans being added in where the movement & expansion joints will be located.

JW2 - Tawas (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: Station construction works were focused on the platform level. Construction of the special span crossing over the PIE appeared to have reached as far as the span would go till the pier on the northern side is completed. Over at the site of the former Pioneer Primary School, a temporary staging area from where trackworks will commence has been prepared.

Phase 2
The four contracts under phase 2 were also seeing decent progress with stations taking shape and viaducts coming up. In particular, viaduct construction works north of the PIE were making good progress, while viaducts south of the PIE only had progress in the vicinity of Jurong East near the Integrated Transport Hub.

JE1 - Tengah Plantation (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: Launch gantry Magnificent Mammoth is approximately 2 spans away from connecting the viaduct with the station building. This process may be completed around the end of Q3 or the beginning of Q4 judging from the pace of construction works thus far. Once that section is completed, the gantry will likely make its way through the station - now focused on the construction of the platform level, to commence work on the spans on the western side of the station. Work at the station's platform level has avoided commencing on features such as the platform level plant rooms, likely to keep the path clear for the gantry to advance through.

JE2 - Tengah Park (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: Work on the central part of the station has moved to the platform level, with the trackbeds and parapet walls clearly visible. Additionally, the Pandan Reservoir-bound track's viaduct north of the station building has been connected to the station building. Similar works to launch viaduct segments using the trestle method are underway on the south side of the station. Launch gantry Rock Steady has also approached the end of its current section constructing the cripple siding before the line swings over Bukit Batok Road. It remains to be seen if the gantry will be relocated to continue viaduct construction works on the section near
Bukit Batok West station.

JE3 - Bukit Batok West (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: At the station building, 8 pairs of 10 station pier pairs were visible. The remaining 2 pairs at the eastern end were still at footing (foundation) level, with backfilling yet to commence. The western half of the station had also moved on to casting of the concourse slab. Viaduct piers towards the east were in the process of having the crossheads completed, while those to the west of the station were being prepared for viaduct span construction.

JE4 - Toh Guan (Contract J109)
In a nutshell: Approximately half of the station's piers concourse level crossheads have been cast. The viaduct piers along Jurong East Central were still devoid of crossheads, although the casting for the first of these was noted with the installation of rebar underway for the said pier. Across the PIE, viaduct span construction was substantially completed. Nearer to Jurong East, viaduct piers for the high-level crossing over the EWL viaduct were beginning to take shape.

JE6 - Jurong Town Hall (Contract J109)
In a nutshell: The contract's launch gantry was recently lifted onto a set of viaduct piers just adjacent to the station building. Assembly work was still in progress and may take some time before the gantry becomes operational - this can take approximately a month as assembly is completed and testing conducted before the machine is certified for use. The station building was reaching construction of the platform level at the western end.

JE7 - Pandan Reservoir (Contract J107)
In a nutshell: Half of the station had moved onto the construction of the mezzanine level. As the line needs to climb over the AYE viaduct, the station is designed with four levels so that the line's vertical alignment can be limited in a more controlled manner. Given that a crossover will be located north of the station, this also further restricts the line's vertical alignment. Beyond the station's structure, viaduct piers were also under construction along West Coast and Jurong Town Hall Roads. Notably, all the viaduct piers with the exception of the last one on along West Coast Road, have not had their crowns completed yet.

Phase 3 (South)
The southern portion of phase 3 saw the emergence of viaduct piers along all contracts, with the first viaduct piers for contract J112 appearing just north of the AYE. Several piers were also visible at the Tukang station site.

JS9 - Enterprise (Contract J111)
In a nutshell: The station piers were mostly cast at street level. Nearby viaduct piers were also completed with segment launching beginning. Viaduct piers near the Jurong Central Park also continued with segment launching works.

Phase 3 (North)
The northern section of the phase had significant progress with the structures of the stations beginning to show. Viaduct span construction was also progressing well with a number of spans already completed and several more viaduct piers under construction.

JW3 - Nanyang Gateway (Contract J113)
In a nutshell: With the station's piers cast at street level, work began on the portal beams that would support the concourse slab beams. Viaduct construction continued on either side of the station with the launching of viaduct segments by the balanced cantilevered method using lifting frames taking place.

JW4 - Nanyang Crescent (Contract J113)
In a nutshell: The station has a unique design, with the platform levels sandwiched between upper and lower concourse levels. Situated on a hillock, the station's platforms will be suspended on either end but sit on the summit of the hillock towards its centre. Works on the base structure were underway for the station's platforms and the lower concourse on the eastern end. Towards the west, heavy machinery arrived on site at the newly taken over parking lots for further viaduct piers.

JW5 - Peng Kang Hill (Contract J115A)
In a nutshell: The first signs of the station building's structure began to show. Similarly to Nanyang Crescent station, the station also sits on the side of a hillock with upper and lower concourses. However, unlike the preceding station, one end of the platforms will sit solely on the hillock's crest. Several bored piles were now exposed on the northern end where the line transits to the crossover structure at ground level. Further north, viaduct piers were taking shape to the crown level with crosshead construction due next.
