A milestone moment has been reached in the construction of the Jurong Region Line (JRL). A section of the under construction viaducts in Tengah have been successfully handed over to trackworks contractor China Railway First Group this week. This section of viaducts, under contract J102 by Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co, has seen the installation of cable racks, cable troughs and first stage concreting before the handover was effected.

This represents a significant milestone as contract J102 is the first contract to handover viaducts to facilitate track works. These works include the installation of the concrete slabs upon which the rails will be affixed and other components such as cabling and third rail installation. Cabling is typically done once the rails have been laid, using flat bed wagons. Cable drums lifted onto the flat bed wagons are then used to lay the cables for installation in the cable racks easily. We understand that approximately half of the viaducts being constructed under contract J102 are expected to be handed over to the trackworks contractor by year end.

viaduct deck will be used to secure the concrete plinths upon which the rails will be laid. One can
make out where the tracks will be installed by observing the location of these stubs.

Congratulations to STEC on achieving this landmark milestone for contract J102. We look forward to the trackworks contractor taking over and commencing the installation of rails for the JRL within this section over the next few months.
