To wrap up our Q3 update for phase 2 of the Jurong Region Line (JRL), we are focusing on the two remaining contracts at Jurong East - contracts J110 and J120. The former is for the construction of the JE5 Jurong East interchange while the latter involves the construction of the Jurong East Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) and associated viaducts through the development. More images are available after the jump.

J110 - Jurong East station (JE5)
Over the past quarter, works at J110 have progressed to the platform level of the existing station. In order to add more vertical circulation by means of additional escalators and staircases, work has commenced on the relocation of several plantrooms to make way for the additional circulation infrastructure. In the first phase, work commenced on the relocation at platforms C & D which serve the eastbound and southbound lines of the station.

At the opposite end of the station, towards the end of the quarter, it was also noted that beams and bolts to facilitate the installation of temporary protective enclosures around the southbound track's viaduct had begun installation. These would serve to protect the existing live tracks while the new paid-transfer link and entrance plaza is constructed above.

Additionally, at ground/street level, work was progressing as well with the casting of the station columns. The columns at the western end are at the most advanced stage of construction and the works progress eastwards, with that end being at a less advanced stage of completion. As was seen at neighbouring Jurong Town Hall station, construction of the service ducts at ground/street level was also observed. The base of a viaduct pier could also be seen constructed during the past quarter.

J120 - Jurong East Integrated Transport Hub & associated viaducts
The main component for the JRL under this contract would be the construction of the viaduct and associated piers between contract J109 to the north and J110 to the east. The JRL viaduct will cross above the existing eastbound track of the East-West Line before running through the upcoming ITH and thereafter the existing Jurong East station.

This past quarter has seen the completion of casting work for the first three piers under the contract, which happen to be movement & expansion joints. Following the completion of casting works, scaffolding was installed ahead of in-situ casting of the viaduct span.

Quarter 3 of the year has seen progress at all 4 of the contracts along phase 2 of the JRL. Of these contracts, contract J108 has the most visible progress and remains the only phase 2 contract to begin viaduct span construction works. We look forward to the line's continued progress over Q4 of the year as we head into the final weeks before crossing into the new year. Do stay tuned as we quickly wrap up coverage of phase 3 and thereafter bring you a year-end update to close of 2023.

This post will also be available on Instagram & Facebook on 15 December 2023.
