J109 - Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall & Pandan Reservoir update Q3 2023

A compilation of progress at the 3 station sites as at September 2023.

Q3 of 2023 has been a fruitful one for contract J109. Although there may not have been as visible progress as contract J108, the stations and viaduct piers under this contract has been making in-roads to completion of the structures for the line. Do check out the progress report for contract J109 after the jump!

JE4 - Toh Guan
The big story for Toh Guan has been the foundation works for the station and various viaduct piers along Jurong East Central. Hemmed in by the existing North-South Line (NSL) tracks on one side and residential blocks on the other leaves little space for contractors Daewoo & Yongnam to work with. The work sites are created by utilising every possible inch on either side of the existing roadway to push the carriageways as far apart from each other as possible. In doing so, the road median had been widened sufficiently for bored piling work to take place.

Significant progress had been made to allow for the excavation for construction of the station pier pile caps. Several pits line the stretch where the station will be located, awaiting the installation of rebar that would serve as the base of the station piers. On either end of the station - to the north and the south - sat the viaduct work sites.

The site to the south was still relatively untouched, with work only beginning within the past quarter to divert the roadway for the creation of work sites from which the viaduct piers could be built. Work on this section will be interesting as the viaducts will need to rise high enough to cross over the already tall East-West Line (EWL) eastbound track. Some work had gone on previously at the slip road from Boon Lay Way to Jurong East Central, but was subsequently covered back over.

Across the Pan Island Expressway (PIE), was the northern viaduct site. Progress here was significant, with the viaduct piers taking shape. Crossheads casting was also underway as the pier in the expressway median began to take shape.

JE6 - Jurong Town Hall
Over at Jurong Town Hall station site, along Jurong Town Hall Road, work had made progress with the station structure taking shape after months of work at the base/street level. With the casting of the service ducts below the lowest level of the station, columns began to rise upwards to the second level.

Parts of the launch gantry for the contract also began arriving on site for storage until the viaduct piers completed casting. It is likely that the gantry will only be installed in the coming year as the viaduct piers still had some way to go till completion - none were yet undergoing crosshead construction works.

Further north along Jurong Town Hall Road, work began on the foundations of several piers as the line runs parallel to the namesake road.

JE7 - Pandan Reservoir
Progress at Pandan Reservoir station had been somewhat slow over the past quarter. The station construction is still focused at the base/street level and despite the work put in, has made little visible progress. The first viaduct pier column to be cast still sat on site partially cast and without any crosshead added to complete the structure.

Further along West Coast Road, however, work was progressing for the construction of the line's viaduct piers. Excavation pits for the pier pile caps could be seen being constructed near the namesake reservoir, ending just before Sungei Ulu Pandan. Other than this, however, there was not much other visible progress to report on over Q3 2023.
