J106 - Boon Lay update Q3 2023

24 September 2023 - Aerial view of the southern half of the station.

Contract J106 has been bustling with work making significant progress over the past quarter. The station building is now becoming visible with the southern and northern halves using various pier support methods to keep the station elevated above Jurong West Street 64. Viaduct segment launching has also made significant progress with most spans installed. The only exception would be the spans that are supported by the movement & expansion joint piers. The installation of viaduct spans on these piers will require the use of trestles - a sort of frame that can hold the viaduct segments in place that is supported on the ground - and thus these spans are being left for the last parts of viaduct construction.

In total, the contract will need to see approximately 21 viaduct piers being built and connected to the viaduct spans. Of these 21 piers, approximately 19 have had their columns built or at least partially built by Q3 2023. Segment launching had either been completed or was in progress for 9 of these piers as well.

Over at the station building, work has been underway for the construction of the various station piers that would help to bear the load of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) station. On the northern half, the station is supported by portal piers which have columns on either side of Jurong West Street 64. This is in contrast to the support system on the southern half, which has station pier columns located in the road median and utilises crossheads to provide the station with the corresponding floor space needed.

15 July 2023 - A diagram indicating the location of relocated ATMs. Alterations to the existing
station can be seen in red, showing the location of a new staircase, escalator & lift.

Works for the station are not limited to the new station site either. Over at the existing East-West Line (EWL) station, some preparatory work has commenced for the reconfiguration ahead of connection with the new JRL station. Alterations will include replacing the existing staircase connecting the EWL concourse and platform with a new escalator. A set of replacement stairs will be built that will pop out at the platform level roughly where an existing atrium exists over some mechanical & electrical plant rooms. An additional lift will also be built as part of the EWL station's modification works.

With so much going on, here are the photos over the past quarter to bring you up to date with the progress made in Q3 2023.
