J120 Jurong East ITH |
We're about 3/4's of the way through 2026. Our last full snapshot of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) was in March 2026, with only partial snapshot updates since. We tried hard through August and finally have an update covering the full line again. Along phase 1, the stations are beginning to receive their external facades and paneling that showcases the station liveries, giving each station its individual character. It appears that each station will utilise multiple colours, rather than a single colour unlike early stations along the MRT network (such as Clementi, Buona Vista, Commonwealth).
 |
With station liveries beginning to appear, are you able to identify the various stations from the colour schemes? |
What do you think of the colours being used for the JRL stations? Were they what you had expected? Let us know in the comments section.
Elsewhere along the line, the number of contracts with remaining viaduct construction remained at 2 contracts - 1 each in phases 2 and 3. The rest of the contracts had viaduct construction works largely completed, with parapet walls installed and rails laid. We'll move onto the individual phases and look at the progress made in greater detail after the jump.
Phase 1
All stations along the phase had been fitted out with Platform Screen Gates (PSGs), or were undergoing such installation works. Cladding panel installation was also underway at the various stations, with such works at differing stages of completion. As all tracks had been laid and final gauging completed, with the concrete slabs cast, works along the viaducts were focused on completion of the noise barrier system installation.
Reinstatement works were also underway across most of the phase 1 contracts, with drainage, walkway and bus shelters being constructed along the line's route.
Tengah depot (Contract J101)
In a nutshell: Works were progressing with the main entry to the depot gradually looking closer to completion. Within the depot itself, most of the facilities involved in rail operations appeared to be nearing completion as well, with cladding being installed at the administration building. The facilities for the co-located bus depot were slowly growing in height as well.

JS1 -
Choa Chu Kang (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: There has been quite a fair bit of progress at the station. The exterior facade panels on the western end of the station were being installed, with the first set put in at the station's southern end. Presumably, these facade panels will help with both weather and privacy protection. As the panels are perforated, it is unlikely that they will help with noise reduction. Within the station's interior, platform screen gates (PSGs) have been installed for the JRL's platform. None were yet been installed along the North-South Line (NSL)'s platform at the time of visit, although most of the utility boom for the new NSL platform had been hung in place. Along the JRL tracks, railings were being installed where the parapet wall transitioned from the viaduct to the station structure. At the existing Exit A of the station, rods from which new station signage will be installed could be seen.

JS2 -
Choa Chu Kang West (Contract J102)
In a nutshell: With the station's roofing works completed, the next area of focus was the station's interior. PSGs had since been fully installed at the station, with cladding works ongoing at the platform level. Installation of ceiling panels and other fixtures was ongoing at the station exits. Along the track, railings had been installed where the parapet wall transitioned from the viaducts to the station structure. In addition, most of the noise barrier installation work along the viaduct had been completed, with several sections remaining for panel installation. At street level, reinstatement works along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 were in full swing. Permanent sheltered walkways and bus stops were being constructed.

Jurong West (Contract J105)
In a nutshell: Interior works at the station had progressed significantly, with various elements now visible. The lift shafts at platform level had cladding panels added on, making them look quite similar to the lifts along Kuala Lumpur's Putrajaya MRT line's elevated stations. Emergency train stop buttons could also be seen at the platform level. At concourse level, glass panel installation works were in progress. Observed within the station were aluminium panels, likely to segregate the fare paid zone from a fare unpaid corridor within the concourse. At the station's exterior, cladding was being added at the eastern end.

JS8 -
Boon Lay (Contract J106)
In a nutshell: The station building was undergoing facade installation works, with cladding panels progressively being added to the station structure. These appear to carry a champagne colour. Parts of the station building walls were also being coated with a dark grey paint. Works for the modification of the existing East-West Line (EWL)'s station platform for the paid transfer link were also in progress. At platform level, emergency stop buttons were seen installed, while works continued for the installation of the utility service booms and PSGs.

Phase 2
This section on phase 2, by comparison, will be a little lighter as we had only recently completed a more thorough update of the section. Nonetheless, recent progress includes the installation of escalators at both Toh Guan and Pandan Reservoir stations, along with the commencement of interior and exterior fit out works at Jurong East and Jurong Town Hall stations.
Track-laying works had been completed within contracts J108 and J110. As contract J109 was still completing viaduct construction works, track-laying works had not commenced along this section.
JE1 - Tengah Plantation (Contract J108)
In a nutshell: Works are ongoing at street level for the construction of the station's plant rooms. At concourse level, works continue on the interior and exterior fit out. Noise barriers were being installed along the viaduct and cable laying works were also in progress.

Phase 3 (South)
Parts of the the southern section of Phase 3 are moving along pretty quickly while other parts appear to be moving much slower. Rail laying works had commenced on the section, although the final alignment of the tracks had yet to be determined. One of the last remaining contracts where viaduct construction works were still underway is located in this section of the phase as well.
Track-laying works were underway and had reached approximately to Tukang station. As viaduct spans under contract J112 were still underway, track-laying works could not progress further.
JS9 - Enterprise
(Contract J111)
In a nutshell: The station structure is mostly completed, with installation of mechanical & electrical components within the station commencing. Structural works are underway for the 3 station exits - 1 on the eastern side of the station and 2 on the western side.

- Jurong Pier (Contract J112)
In a nutshell: Structural works for the main station building appeared to be largely in place, even as diaphragm wall construction works continued for the connecting underpass to an exit across Jurong Pier Road for the station. It is likely that the paid transfer link to the future Cross Island Line (CRL) station will also be constructed together. The construction of these underground works, however, impact the completion of the station building's structure at the northern end, including the interface points between the viaducts and the station.

JW5 - Peng Kang Hill (Contract J115A)
In a nutshell: The linkbridge to connect an exit had been successfully installed. Beneath the station's roofing, several temporary jack structures were observed. We postulate that these are to support the installation of escalators from the platform level to the upper concourse level, as the station's roof support structure is not built to support the installation of escalators.
