J107 - Tawas update Q3 2023

 

24 September 2023 - A view of Tawas station as seen from the north.

As of the end of Q3 2023, work at the Tawas station was progressing to casting of the trackbed & platform level support columns. Using precast platform level crossheads, the side platform slabs of the station will be supported by central columns below the trackbed. Apart from Tengah station, Tawas is likely to be one of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) stations to be built the quickest. Join us as we take a look at the progress made over the past quarter.

July 2023
In the early part of the quarter, work seemed to focus on getting the viaduct piers constructed near the Pan Island Expressway and within the site of the former Pioneer Primary School. Work at the station seemed to stagnate for a while, where not much progress could be seen. This was in opposition to the viaduct piers, where the pier immediately south of the station building began to take shape. The station, on the other hand, looked virtually the same as of the end of Q2 2023.

August 2023
When August rolled around, work seemed to have picked up at the station site once again. Preparatory works were being made for the casting of the platform level crosshead stub at the first pier within the station. Work on the concourse slab was also underway where rebar was installed to create a slab floor between the beams already cast. With the concourse slab in, work could commence on the installation of scaffolding support for the crosshead stub's casting.

Meanwhile, across the expressway over at the site of the former Pioneer Primary School, work was underway to complete the viaduct piers with crossheads. Segment launching had also began for one of the completed piers, with the first segment of each bound being installed atop a trestle support. At other piers, crosshead casting was being done.

of trestle supports which are the temporary frames used to support the viaduct segments in place.

September 2023
In end-Q3 2023, work had moved on to the casting of several more columns at concourse level to support the platform level slab. One of the first two columns had also begun casting work for the platform level crosshead stub, from which the prefabricated arms would be attached. Work was also continuing on the steady installation of viaduct segments north of the station.
